Joel Robles

I don't know why you've chosen to rally behind Robles mate if I'm honest

He's shown that he's nothing better than back up

He had some shocking performances last season. Howard just happened to have even worse

He's not good enough to be Everton #1

Stek probably isn't either, but he's a damn sight better choice than Joelly Boy
His save at the near post tonight was great we have had a keeper problem for three seasons now the shek is terrible IMO too, I beg to differ Robles is the worse of the two evils we need to sign a keeper yes but to blame him for those two flat footed centre halfs is desperation mane ran two yards past them to tap that in also as Williams got 90 minutes in him as he never moved!
Stek caused the extra minutes by staying on injured alls he had to do was go off behind the goal?
They are the luckiest team I know the L in their name equals luck!
A scuffed shot, but shocking defending IMO not good enough all round Barry is robbing a living!
Look there to blame that defeat IMO!

Not really if Sturridge had been closed down he would have been a hero for his great save OUT of the two he has youth on his side he can better Steck is what he is dodgy knees yes we need a keeper , but to blame him for a scuffed shot arrowed into the corner unsighte by our two central defenders who were statues is a bit harsh when our midfield collapsed in the 2 Nd half!

That was a great save but since it didnt win us a point its forgotten about.

Reality is we still need to get a top keeper, while he is a better option then Stek, who should of been dropped or rather not bought back after the West Ham game, him getting injured tonight might be what we need to make sure we do go out and dont mess about in the next window. If he isnt injured I fear Ronald will just start him again on Boxing day and not go and get the replacement we should of got in the summer.

I think some people have just fallen in love with Robles and are blind to his faults.

He made one good save tonight, but made a pretty poor effort for their goal. Yes, the defenders should have done better in stopping the shot coming in, and yes they should have been quicker getting to the rebound, but ultimately it's the keepers job to stop the round thing hitting the back of the net.

More generally, the problem I have with Robles is his lack of ambition. For years now he's been relatively happy playing second fiddle and just playing when the first choice keeper is injured or in abject form.

A similar criticism can probably be made at Stek too. Basically I don't think either of them think they're good enough to be first choice at a top to middling Premier League club and, to be frank, they're probably right.

TL;DR ?

They're both stopgaps.

If that trickles in without the rebound he's getting beaten to death in here. He should be doing better and the annoying habit he shares with Howard of being 8 yards off the line cost him

Are people seriously blaming Robles?

He was positioned fine, the fact that Sturridge could only get his shot onto the post shows his angles were right.

Now if only our great defenders would bother following up on rebounds.

He did nothing wrong.

If you watched the replay afterwards, you would see that he does a needless little jump as the shot is trickled towards him. By the time he sorts his feet out, it's too late. It's a technical error. Other keepers would have made that save look very easy.

Other teams wouldn't have let Sturridge run across their back line, without a challenge being put in.
