John Stones transfer saga

Earlier someone posted about things not being as rosy in the garden as some would think and that reminded me of something that I read tucked away in the clubs accounts

You need to remember it was in relation to the previous years accounts but after the three major signings made in the summer 2104 transfer window

I won't quote word for word but we were told that there were on going discussions with the clubs bankers and whilst they couldn't give any guarantees it was hoped that the bank would provide similar facilities subject to a major review and dependent on player trading

Everton had turnover of about £120 million in 2013/14 with a wage bill of about £70 million sounds a lot £50 million left but that has to pay for everything else including servicing the debt, paying players upkeep of the ground etc etc and don't forget in that £120 million there was a £28 million surplus from player trading.

If people don't think a fee of £30. + million is a lot of money then it really has become a strange world

Again people talk about a war chest where will that be funded from?
In the SKY mate...money is in the SKY....obscene amounts of it.

the thing is stones isnt miles aghead of them now, he is pretty much a young defender. Only difference is he is one that is clearly better than 90% of the rest.

This thread is rose tinted specs, we love him so we dont see that in fact he is still a fair bit away from the finished article. We spout valuations we put on his head simply on the basis of being a young english talent with a bit of a bright future.

And no we shouldnt sell him but if we get what we want in treturn then we will. Same as rooney, same as lescott, arteta etc

id say barkley would be the man in demand this summer if he didnt have a bad season.
We had to sell Rooney because we were skint at the time and had bills to pay. Same with Arteta by the sounds of it, but that one didn't bother me because he was past his best. Lescott made that deal happen because he was willing to be a **** to make it happen.

This situation is different.

Its not different, we are a club that relies on sell to buy.

Same story, just a different name.

For slightly little context, since 2002, we have spent roughly 36m NET on players, thats enough to buy Lukaku and half of McCarthy.

Sorry mate, not sure I understand this post can you clarify? Thanks

whats that got to do with it? the issue was who could we sign, there is 4 examples of centre halves we signed who were good, two were mainstays for years, one international and the other we sold for 24 million!

That if Moyes got £30m+ we could rely on him to buy a few diamonds having done the ground work. I wouldn't trust Martinez with my daughter's pocket money.

None are different

Rooney was always going. Hell Alex ferguson in his book basically said that the club said we will sell him to you next year. So that deal was going to happen, united wanted him from before he broke into the team.

Arteta was sold to pay bills

Lescott wanted to leave, but it was the same as this, city wanted him, it was a case of how much would they be willing to pay.

Stones is the same, if chelsea want to buy then they will buy, but its whether they front the money up or not

Personally i think martinez has done quite well transfer wise. Besic, lukaku, deleufleu, (personally) cleverly, McCarthy. All brilliant signings.

The problem is martinez hasnt had money to spend yet. First year was budget buying, loans and swapping one midfielder for the other. Second year was signing 2 loan players, getting a lad he wanted cheap
So far this year bargain deals.......

Doug Rooney was a better player when he left us than he is now!

Doug Rooney is last

It is a strange world because in football terms £30 million isn't a lot of money...the money sloshing through football, especially English football is absolutely obscene.....you can't even buy a long-haired geordie donkey for that money nowadays...ask any kopite.

Therefore we should hold out for an even bigger obscene figure before we sell our assets

Not sure that £27/28m could be described as a 'loan player' or 'a lad he wanted cheap'.

Cahill's taking the piss today. Talking as if they've already signed him. Should not escape censure, but no doubt will.
