John Stones transfer saga

not at all, reus for example.

Rooney isnt a worse player for leaving, he just idnt the rooney that burst through. He is more compate rather than the explosive striker ala shearer was
one thing that I think was definite was that he would have been loved at this club a lot more than he ever was at United and the pleasure he provided to our fans would have been ten times that of the indifferent hordes at Old Trafford

Per Koldrup.

In all seriousness mate, I think you're looking back with blue tinted glasses, Martienz has signed some great players as well and Moyes signed some guff. No-one has a 100% transfer record and I wouldn't say his dealings were always confidence filling

Ahhh Forgot about Him

Okay, Maybe your right. McCarthy, Deulofeu and maybe lukaku (hardly a bargain) 3 great players in 2 season isnt so bad. kone & alcaraz though ? even though alcaraz was free, he's probably cost us money rather than gaining anything for us. by far the worst ive personally ever seen in a blue shirt.

but thats just going off topic. i think this was a John Stones thread. i'll keep an open mind on the transfers then. maybe i am just being 'picky'

you are spot on there. He would have been a hero here, a legend.

almost makes me feel sad that we never got to see him do that for us.

and to get it back on topic... Stones at Everton.. adored by fans that are desperate for heroes on enough money that he will never have to worry about that side of things for the rest of his life, captain of England, maybe part of an against the odds rise of a club. Stones at Chelsea, part of the scenery, expected to win things, compared to Terry every mistake he makes, maybe captain of England.

Staying with Wolves didn't do Steve Bull any harm regarding England.I have to say I admire him for that.

aye, sad when you look at lcubs like ourselves and that is all it is, balancing books. We could progress if the books were unbalanced for a couple of years but we have never done that.

Different topic altogether.

But rooney at everton was never going to last, rooney now......maybe would have a case for staying. But not back in 2004

Always hated that, Chelsea got Terry and Liverpool got Gerrard just in the era of the fourth champions league spot opening and before City's resurgence. That meant, for Liverpool especially, even if they had a horrific season they would still finish fourth and so could keep Gerrard with the lure of champions league football. Same with Terry, if Abramovich had not arrived he might have got bored with just the odd cup run and gone to Arsenal of United. Instead he had obvious reasons to stay.

If we got Rooney now, with the top 4 being weaker than the past we'd have a great chance of getting in, and therefore keeping Rooney. We'd also have no obligation to sell so could push a ridiculous price if he did want to leave. Instead we got our once in a generation player when we were fighting relegation, the top 4 (not that we were anywhere close) was a lock out, and the financial climate was that we pretty much had to accept the first decent bid for Rooney. To think what might have been if we had Rooney circa 2004 now.

Rewriting of history there. The top four is more difficult for us now than it was then.

Only Goal.com but since there are quotes presume that the report isn't entirely fabricated.

Augsburg chairman Klaus Hofmann has insisted that the German club do not need to sell talented full-back Baba Rahman amid interest from Chelsea, as per Goal.
The 21-year-old has been linked with a summer exit to either AS Roma or Jose Mourinho’s Premier League champions after a stunning season in the Bundesliga. The left-back was by far Augsburg’s most important – and best – player as he won 91 tackles in the league, which was more than any other player in the entire division managed.

Rahman was both solid in defence and a real asset in attack but despite strong rumours suggesting Augsburg sre about to sell their prized asset, the club’s chairman Hoffman has issued a strong statement explaining that they’re in no need to sell the Ghana international.

“We do not need the Baba millions,” he said. “We have a good, solid team here. I am very optimistic that Baba will continue his great performances with us. He’s made a very good impression at our recent training camp. “Why keep Baba? I am an Augsburg fan. To me, it’s more important that I spend the evening watching Augsburg win with a beer in my hand than when we have more money in the bank account.

“There’s no need to even talk about an offer under €20 million, as I’ve previously stated.”

Over 18m on a 21 year old LB that is unlikely to play if Azpilicueta stays fit, has no PL experience and doesn't have the English player markup.....and cost Augsburg £1.8m last summer.

your right, but to a certain extent we have a lukaku now. Not comparing the two, obviously rooney was the exciting local lad who lit the pitch up and got us off our seats. But in romelu we have as close as we are going to get to another top striker so fingers crossed martinez remembers he is playing him and tells the team to pass a bit more to him and he can be a hero to us masses
