Not looked sure of himself since Tim Howard has returned imo!

Good point. One of my fears in the past over Howard has been the effect his jitters/wobbles etc etc had on our defenders especially the confidence of the younger ones. John Stones has had the media 'up n down' already in his young career...people praising him for bringing the ball out with style then others like Jamie Carragher criticising him for over-elaboration and risky play. Only solid defensive displays will bring him confidence, and while the teams in this losing mire, I do fear for him with Howard as his back stop.

I belive Tim Howard has been quoted that the defence is going to now tighten up in forthcoming games - I ask myself is it April the 1st?
John Stonez, and Jags looked comfortable with Robles in goal who. Commanded his area with his 6.4 frame catching the ball keeping clean sheets breeded confidence, and vital points!
Since TH undeserved return Nil Points!- our defencE looks shambolic if you think we have played poor teams a derby game with an improving reds team , and Palace away were Robles was instrumental with saves and catching and clear punching the ball out - Sones was praised in those games!
Any dodgy keeper behind your defence is a disaster waiting to happen, and it has!

Lol at Stones getting bored waiting for anyone else to do something, dribbling the ball well into their half and playing the only through ball into the box for lukaku all game. Well in lad.
As I say , looks good bringing it out and if that's what you took from his performance last night, great. Personally I thought his positional play and awareness was lacking overall once again.

I made this point earlier in a Howard or Robles thread. Howard is completely undermining the defenders in front of him. You watch Stones reaction to Leicesters first goal at Goodison this season. He looks bamboozled.

What is more surprising is he was developing a good understanding with Robles behind him.

All our back players have been out of sorts for most of the season. Stones is a real gifted player but this last few games he has been giving me kittens with his constant playing about in dangerous areas. Good he has the confidence. But he needs to learn when to get rid.

Hope for the future is all around at Finch Farm. Stones is 20, a full international, and Everton captain one day. “Yes,’’ nodded Martínez. “He has got the essence, the material, the responsibility. He understands what it takes for a player to be a leader by action. He’s getting integrated into the Everton culture. It’s been impressive how he’s reacted every time he’s had a game, how he became better the next time.”
