John Stones

Alan Shearer doesnt really rate him
I thought it was poor punditry from him he failed to recognise that centre back is the most important partnership on the pitch & stones is being hung out to dry. Yes he has faults & should be doing better but does he really think John terry is his prime could save that defence.

Ottamendi is as bad as any centre half I can remember in the premier league.

To be fair, I think Shearer had had enough of Neville blaming every other bugger for Stones's shortcomings.

Reckon neither of those will happen.

Call me out/vault me, but City will have a new manager next season. Maybe before then.
Although I'm not convinced Citeh will part with Pep any time soon, I do agree that I doubt Stones will settle into a resolute, reliable defender soon.

As I've mentioned earlier, he needs someone next to him who will be the typical, nonsense defender and will allow him to play to his strengths.

Yet I doubt that's going to be in Pep's plans as it isn't in his philosophy and he's shown that he's either unwilling, or unable, to part from that plan.

He's too laid back, thinks he's got it all yet continues to make mistakes. He's the defensive equivalent of Rodwell, too clever without having a spark of urgency. A talented lad but when he wanted to go to Chelsea then decided he really wanted to go to City, he showed himself for what he is, a bit of a prima donna...........

I genuinely couldn't care less about him. A 15 million talent we flogged for 50 million. I wish him no ill. I'm glad we got the sweet end of the stick on his transfer and wish him luck.

I have no interest in him, he is a Manchester City player now, a team we beat 4-0. I'm more interested in our next opponents.

So why are you posting in a John Stones thread at 11pm on a Monday night haha. Of course you have an interest in him mate or you wouldn't be perusing a John Stones thread

Like Jags.
We should sell them Jags.
I'd take 30m off them as a seasoned England international at this stage ;)

He certainly splits opinion.

One thing he lacks is positional sense. That can't be taught. You either have a football brain or you don't.
He will always be poor I think.

Positional sense comes with experience. He's still a 22 year-old kid. There are few world class 22 year-old centre backs around.

His positional sense is barely prem class though. And at 22, and playing in the prem, that's the least you'd expect. I certainly wouldn't expect him to be world class, because he simply isn't and never will be.

He's a million miles from being world class.
You don't have to be world class to get shut of a ball either.
He's closer to championship class than world class.
