Johnson gets the axe?

The only reason AJ's goals have dried up is our generally lousy midfield, he gets rubbish service most the time, forcing him out to the wings where he isnt in a position to score. The sooner we sort the midfield out with more strength and creativity the sooner our strikers will get more goals.

Dont blame AJ, he's one of the better footballers we have, he's just having to do more than his fair share due to a poor/unbalanced midfield.

May be so we`ll have to see.If he is injured we have no choice but go with other options myself as I posted would go with AJ/Yak if possible, and I do agree with the long ball argument we all want away with that, but if he goes with Faddy and a another we`re still going to the punt way,you know that as well as I do.I do take your points tho`.(y)

What a load of garbage. Whether or not Johnson plays, he's the last person to go moaning to the press that he's bitter about being left out. He'll be desperate to play, having never played in Europe before, but he'll accept Moyes's decision.

Johnson was man of the match against Bolton, and has contributed a huge amount this season without getting on the scoresheet. I think that Moyes has massive respect for Johnson, and that a fully fit Johnson would be in the starting lineup for a game like this.

johnson didnt miss an open goal, a 15 degree angle and three defenders does not an open goal make.

johnson was injured and carried on playing last season, maybe some credit where its due.

agreed. think the article is prob bollox.

I can't see this team pushing up too far so the corners will not be clear for AJ to run into. Moyesy looks to be maybe going for power/skill by employing a Yak/Mac or Yak/Vic striking partership at the expense of AJ. At least he is trying to resolve the AJ scoring problem. Lets hope that by 9:50 tonight we are on singing Moyesy's praises.

We are linking tribalfootball for crying out loud!!!! When have they been right???

Never. It also seems to be so out of character for AJ. Who IMO always struck me as a good professionel doing his talking on the pitch rather than using the media to get a message across.

Exhibit A:

Moyes yesterday insisted Johnson was carrying a knock, along with Steven Pienaar and Thomas Gravesen, and said the trio would face late fitness tests

The rest of the world is saying Arteta and Howard.

dude. i am merely stating fact. if it offends then keep your 'f*** off' to your self, you rude (censored).

Sorry Teppic. Just fed up of negativity, especially toward AJ when it is true that he hasn't slotted in a while but he is setting people up, causing hassle for defences and has been incredibly unlucky not to score in at least the last 2 games.
It was your "running the channels" comment that annoyed me, sort of implying he does nothing more than that.

Nobody is above rotation I agree, especially as Faddy IS on fire at the moment. It just smacked of negativity when I don't agree any way deserved. Again my apologies for ranting at you.

Great post Sim. I was going to post this almost word for word.

This looks like the ideal game for AJ to get a goal or two, which would hopefully start him on a run. On the other hand, players will need to be rested this season whether they like it, or not, and we should be able to beat these without him, and this is a good opportunity to give McFadden what I think would be a deserved start.

Of course, if AJ is carrying a knock then it's a no-brainer.

I don't know that the midfield can take all the blame really. We scored 52 goals last season and we're the third highest scorers this season with 8. It doesn't suggest we have too much problem scoring goals.

We're in a position in attack at the moment where we can rotate players based on form, especially when Vaughan gets back to fitness. We don't have the same options in midfield, so if they're not creating a huge amount (apparently) then there isn't all that much we can do about that until January so it makes sense to try other options up front to see if they can make more of what's given them than AJ has thus far.

As others have said it's a long season and we're not going to play the same eleven every week so it's good to have options and try them out. No one is suggesting AJ is for the scrap heap, just that other options may prove equally profitable for the side.
