This is my first ever post on here but I feel like the on pitch performance has made me want to highlight some examples of how bad we are off pitch.
Recently there was a relatively senior role advertised online, as per usual these roles no longer show a pay bracket so I was unsure of applying, for context I currently do a very similar role for another Premier league club and its only because it was Everton, the club I've supported all my life that I was even swayed to thinking of applying.
So in order to find out more about the vacancy I emailed the specified address to ask if I could speak to someone to find out more detail on the role and a potential pay bracket etc. I then received a generic response saying it can take up to 5 days to reply as they are so busy (Red flag 1).
5 working days pass and no reply and the cut off date is imminent so I made the decision to apply anyway as at least my application is in and I can discuss the details at a later date, I submit my application albeit via my covid sickbed and receive another automated 1 line response saying that my application has been received, for such a senior role I was astounded to receive such a basic/ cold automated response (Red flag 2).
Two weeks pass and no reply considering I applied not long before the cut off I couldn't understand what was taking so long to inform candidates but as I wasn't entirely desperate for the job I gave it another week then emailed the careers email address enquiring if my application had been received and if so what was the timings of the process, another generic wait 5 days for a response email and again not replied to after 5 days (final red flag).
Eventually after over five weeks I received a reply saying that they had not chosen to process my application further and due to the volume of candidates we are unable to provide direct feedback at this stage ! To not even offer the opportunity to speak to someone for feedback is unbelievably unprofessional, after laughing at the email and coming to terms that they think someone who pretty much does the job for another PL club isn't even worth an interview I decided I had dodged a bullet as at every stage possible the club had given me the impression of a poorly run business.
This role for me would have been a passion and a privilege which would have led to me using my 25 plus years experience at the club I love and instead I feel poorly treated in terms of the communication and the way it was handled - to be clear I didn't feel entitled to the Job and there may be a better person for the role and indeed good luck to them in but for me I now cannot stand the club either on or off pitch.
My other experience recently is with the scouting dept/ academy dept. Two kids from my son's football team where both scouted by Everton pre Christmas, how exciting for the two young boys the scout took their email addresses and passed some details on, anyway to this day neither of them have been given a date to come for trails / training despite emails to the club asking (see a pattern emerging here) only Everton could sour something that should be so positive, anyway since then one of the boys has now been scouted by Liverpool and was invited to training and trails within a fortnight and is now with them in the academy.
I have no doubt in my mind that this club is clueless top to bottom and contrary to Bill Kenwright I can confirm that in my near ten years working for Premier league football clubs not once in any meeting have I ever heard anyone say the words "What are Everton doing on this?"
A fully disillusioned fan both on and off pitch
(Sorry for the long post but had to get the detail in)
