Jon Platt Term Time Holidays

I'm a teacher and I just don't agree with Jon Platt thinking it's fine to take children out off school for a holiday (unless exceptional circumstances). I understand prices are ridiculous during the summer holidays but that's not the schools fault. I can't just tell my head teacher that I am not paying the over priced amount for a holiday so won't be coming in for a week or two during term time. The government should be telling the travel agents they can't put prices up and set up a law to stop all this.

I have had kids in my class before who have taken holidays and I can say they miss out on important work and it can be difficult to catch them back up with the rest of the class who have moved on to something else. It means teachers have to use their own time to help these children with the work they have missed.

I don't understand the high court ruling in his favour as it's just allowing parents to do what they want now. This will mean more and more kids will be off making it increasing difficult for teachers when it's hard enough as it is with the demands in place.

I do totally understanding parents being annoyed about the prices, it does my head in as well but they should be getting the government to address it with travel agents not making it more difficult for hard working teachers.

I'm glad he won. They are his kids, he has responsibility for them.

Plus what are they going to miss? A few lessons on how to pass a pointless exam to label them as worthy of higher education or a lifetime on the scrap heap?

I dont like that teachers have training days after having weeks off but thats life

Ah, the old "teachers have loads of time off" shout twice already.

From personal experience I know teachers work a lot harder than most and don't get paid accordingly. No problem with them having a lot of time off, personally.

Also do not moan about holidays being priced higher for you lot when you have more days off than father friggin Christmas.

Thing is though we have to do work during the holidays so it's not as rosey as it might seem.

Have to do plenty of work after work hours and at weekends too. Plus kids are awful. Imagine having to deal with 30 at a time.

I dont care but then dont moan if a kid is off it isnt as though a couple of weeks work cant be made up reciting whatever text book is getting used

It's almost like they were forced into the career and couldn't have done anything else at all, then they moan at getting almost 3 months a year off because they stay late a few nights a week.
