Played absolutely brilliantly today i thought, got forward but done all the basics as well as anyone has for a long time in this team (Hibbertesque his defending at times) - said it a whilst back but think he will turn into something special in a few years
This lad has got great potential, been impressed with him since I saw him playing centre half for the U18's. Personally I was made up that we didn't get Byram because I think Kennys going to be a much better player. Made up he got a game today.

Like to see him in the squad nrxt season challenging seamus. Proper defender with all his blocks today n has the engine to get forward.

i said similar on the byram thread that id rather give kenny a shot mate, delighted to see him take his chance today, i gushed about him the other year breing the long term replacement for coleman, think managed right he will be

....very solid debut and provided an assist for a goal with a great overlapping run. For those who watched him score the winning penalty for his country at the Euro's there was never a doubt about his temperament or commitment, both were very evident today.
This lad has just got it, great passer of the ball as well for a defender. If he doesn't make it at Everton somethings gone wrong.

Absolutely, couldn't agree more, he's going to be good, no doubt in my mind.

He is a real leader as well, and captained our under 21's at the age of 17. It looks like he's jumped ahead of Connolly in the cue (which is no bad thing) as I thought Connolly probably needed a bit more work.

What always concerned people re Kenny was his lack of size. He was always a fantastic centre back, aggressive with a good spring on him but lacked a little size. It looks like he has grown up a bit.

There has been a lot of talk of getting a right back to put pressure on Coleman. I really hope we don't. I think this lad can step up and put pressure on. I also think with Pennington and Browning we are well covered in that area with 3 lads who will put defending first if Coleman doesn't rediscover his form. Well done to Kenny today, he'll be made up and so he should be. I feel proud we had 5 scouse lads from our academy involved today, it must be close to a record that.

Yeah and great to hear Unsworth say we've got half a dozen lads who are ready or nearly ready. We need a manager who can bring these lads through because we've got a great bunch of young lads -that hasn't been seen for decades.

Two points:

1. That diving header he did in our box was absolutely awesome; thought he was gonna have his head kicked clean off.

2. I know he's right-footed but hasn't Connolly played at LB most of this season in the academy?

Thats something an everton manager has not said for a good while now.
Berto just always went on about being in right moment and needing a gazillion training sessions and a loan out etc.
Along with a few others i think unsworth has been fantastic for these kids. Some coaches are cut out for first teams etc. Some coaches excell in pushing kids through the ranks, i think unsy is the latter

He's done a great job at U21 level, if he says there ready then judging on what we've seen today then he's spot on.

.

I've seen Connolly mainly as a left back / centre back, he only seems to have covered right back occasionally, and quite recently.

We are unusual in England in looking at promoting players to the first team as teenagers. Connolly might be a bit like Pennington in that he'll need a few lower league loans to bulk up and learn to play against adults.
