2019/20 Jordan Pickford

If Pickford punched the ball like he should've we wouldn't have lost. Awful goalkeeping for the first goal.

Aye however Digne/Davies & Delph also massively to blame for their parts in those 2 goals.

Im still absolutely seething - not an ounce of in game management in our players whatsoever.

We are desperate for 2-3 leaders on the pitch who know how to close a game out.

I agree with a lot of what you say, especially in regards to Bernard, Schneiderlin, Kean and DCL, and even Digne, who has been poor.

But Pickford is a massive liability. These games change on small occurrences. They happen in games all of the time, like a late corner when you are 2-0 up and coasting. He comes and gets anything decent on that, or claims it, and the game is over. It wasn't a particularly dangerous corner, I've watched it back, and a decent keeper has that.

Pickford is awful at coming for crosses, 1 of his big weaknesses for me. I'm actually surprised when he catches them as it happens so Infrequently and this in itself gives team a lift every time we concede a corner, which in itself, gives us this "weak at set pieces" identity we currently have. Because the defenders don't have a clue which Pickford is gonna show up. The big head who comes and doesn't reach, the guy who stands bouncing on his line arguing and pushing a striker who Towers over him, or on the rare occasion, the level headed goalkeeper who is concentrating on the outcome of the set piece and realises if he jumps with his hands in the air, he should be reaching most things if he follows the track of the ball.

The defence has been pretty woeful since he joined, it's not a coincidence.
First season he won all the dixie awards with a terrible defence so I’m afraid the defence was already bad before that. We blamed Joel, we’ve blamed Howard before that. This season and last season for me has been the defence we haven’t got a leader and that comes with pickford aswell. To say he’s the main problem is a bit of joke to be honest. Can you say Coleman has been good? No, can you say mina? No, can you Keane? No, can you say digne? No, can you say sidibe? No, holgate has improved but has he been outstanding probably not. But no, we’ll see it’s pickfords fault as he’s done a few mistakes. Like everyone does in a team. I get it’s a specialist position, but the amount of mistakes positionally and defensively that back four has done this season goes unnoticed as we as fans are to hung up on pinning the blame on one player. I’m not a fan of that. The leaders of that team are supposed to be Coleman, gylfi and digne? 2 of which are defenders who haven’t been good enough. Defenders who are meant to lead and defend? Get my point. The defence as a collective have not been good enough. It doesn’t start and stop with one person. Give your head a shake. Pickford has kept us in a few games and kept the score down on numerous occasions. I’m not gonna hammer him, can he do better? Yes certainly? Can others around him? Yes most definitely. Stop crucifying one player. It’s beggars belief it really is.

On here about ten days ago I commented that he was not good enough, and disputed someone's suggestion that you could raise £50m for him to fund other purchases.
I said he was an OK athlete but had judgement and temperament problems.
I got a welter of abuse and one post that reckoned he was valued at £62m...
Any further comments?

I know that Gomes and Gbamin are world class while they are out injured, but I think they both look more calm on the pitch. Delph was supposed to be, Coleman should be, Holgate too even though he's young. Yes game management and leaders are crucial at the moment.

Im more angry at the idiots like Niasse, Davies & Delph who instead of keeping the ball into the corner at 93 mins 2-0 put us under massive pressure which ultimately cost us.

They did it fine first half passing it around seeing the game out so effin why not at the end?

Blaming Pickford is too easy a cop out we have a good few idiotic players who are costing us week in week out.

See Davies at Leicester.

Part of the answer to your question, lies in the first two names listed in your first line! Niasse is a truly dreadful footballer who has no place in the Everton squad, never mind getting a game! Davies hasn’t progressed in three years, arguably he’s actually got worse, had a big part in both those goals conceded last night!

My tip for him would be to stand in front of his goalline and not behind it.

This is the sort of outside the box thinking that we should be embracing as a club. Your crazy sounding idea may just be ahead of its time.

If richard wright and nigel martin somehow had a love child pickford would be it. Good shot stopper but absolutely full of mistakes.

Richard Wright is the name I was trying to think of last night. A much hyped keeper who initially wowed audiences with reaction saves, got a big move and then was gradually exposed over time as not being anywhere near the player people had thought he was.

Sound familiar?

I didn't give you any abuse (at least I hope not) but I did write this:

I hope Ancelotti isn't looking for a new keeper. I do have some reservations about Pickford, but what I'd really like to see is Carlo working with him to improve him. He has some impressive parts of his game and some not so good, if he could cut out the positioning errors and improve on the mental side of the game he could be a top keeper, because as others have said he has good, sometimes exceptional shot stopping skills.

Obviously if that doesn't work out then Brands needs to have some options available, maybe a good prospect or an older pro who can provide better competition than Lossi or Stek.

and without wanting to be kneejerk about it, last night I changed my mind. They should work with him, they should say the nice things in public and quietly, behind the scenes, Brands needs to be looking for a better option and hopefully a buyer for JP.

The only thing rising with Pickford is his comedy value.
