Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford says criticism does not affect him, adding "everyone hates you" when you are an England player.
The 25-year-old was at fault for Christian Benteke's goal on Saturday as Everton went seventh in the Premier League thanks to a 3-1 win against Crystal Palace.
Pickford says the criticism is unfair.
"Everyone hates you, for some reason, that's part of being an England player," he said.
"I think the press and everybody, the punters - look at Gary Neville - they just want to come for England players.
"You have got to live with it, you have got to learn. I know what I am capable of and I know what I am good at."
Pickford's temperament was called into question last season because of his performance in a 3-2 defeat at Newcastle in March. The former Sunderland keeper saved a penalty but his antics with the Newcastle fans led his behaviour being called "ridiculous and bizarre" by BBC Sport pundit Alan Shearer.
Last season Pickford made four errors which led to goals. He has two in the current campaign.
"Look at Joe Hart when he was number one. He got pelters every week," added Pickford.
"You just keep it away from your head as the only person who can sort things out is yourself as an individual, on the pitch and in training.
"It's looking after things on the pitch for Everton that is my main aim. That gets you picked for England.
"It's funny because everyone raves about you when you are with England but then you get back to your club and everyone wants to slate you.
"As a person, I don't let it affect me."
He accepts he made a mistake for Benteke's goal but felt there were mitigating circumstances.
"I've watched the goal. I'm lucky I haven't done my cruciate (knee ligaments), to be honest. My foot planted. It was a foot save and I have led with my hand," he added.
"I couldn't get my leg out. It was stuck. It happens. But I am mentally strong. I'm disappointed but it doesn't affect us."

He specifically moaned about the media - and we all know that affects opposing fans. He also stated he is focusing on doing well for us. It's not like we can transfer him tomorrow, could do with toning down the hate.
Equally, players cannot simply live in a bubble where 'everything is okay' and be completely exempt from any form of pressure and/or criticism.
Of course, it's a balancing act and unfortunately too many fans go too far, where it becomes counter productive, but he has to expect (and accept) being critiqued.
Saying stuff like this is only going to fuel the fire for those fans who are more overt or vocal with their criticism because he comes across as being obtuse.
Like I said earlier, he made a mistake and he should have taken it on the chin, and for most people that'll been the end of it; now, he's just making himself a target.

Yes, I agree in genera.
The thing with him is it is a all a front imo. An act,he likes to play the fool, tough guy whatever, to cover the fact that he is neither. It stands out a mile. When people get on his case it plays on his weakness' and makes him worse.
When he is on form and confident he is still a very good keeper but he is on the edge all the time cos he and we are waiting for him to cock up.
....I can’t really be having this view, it’s almost putting the cart before the horse. He gets criticism because he makes mistakes. Human nature dictates that passionate fans will make their views known. Only he can turn his fortunes around, he can’t expect fans to zip their lips when he costs their team points.
He can win them over with a prolonged period of good form.
I agree with that point, however I'm not going to lay all the blame for his poor performances on the fans and their expectations, criticism or whatever it actually is.
Is it a factor? Yes it is; but from what I've seen and what I personally know, he is also his own worst enemy because his brashness clouds his own expectations.
Does his defence have confidence in him? Do they feel comfortable in their relationship to a point they can rely on him, and vice versa? I'm not sure.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not out to bash Jordan and I do feel he is a good shot stopper, with a lot of potential, but if he wants to kick on then he needs to change.
You look at the likes of De Gea (a fantastic keeper) who went through a period of real instability and made errors. Did he come out with rambles? Did he rant?
I know it was a few weeks ago, but when we weren't playing particularly well we had Jordan going out openly necking pints, in front of the media, and being a tit.
He's a human, yes, but there was a time and a place for such behaviour and it's not during a period of instability where you're playing up to the crowd.
In layman's terms: he needs to get his head down, mellow and reflect. Then, I think he really could be the fantastic keeper that we all wished he'd initially be.
