I’ve been making the Gazza comparison for quite a while. His hyperactivity stands out a mile. That twidgety/nervousness. I know he’s well paid so shouldn’t really feel sorry for him, but I feel for him on this because there’s pretty much nothing he can do for this problem.
His shot stopping from close range I think is excellent (especially making saves with his feet). At the World Cup he made numerous top class point blank saves. He’s good when he doesn’t have to think about the save....the issue is when he does. The lack of concentration that comes with hyperactivity, that’s a killer for a gk. He gets easily distracted, switches off, lacks focus/calmness. Recall David James having a similar issue (for some reason it was partially blamed on his use of video games), which leads to errors.
I think he’s the first to be replaced by Carlo.
