It is not a blip, it's consistent (over two years) of dreadful form. Kepa was hammered by the press, as was Karius for both performing at a similar level to Pickford. He get's a pass because he is English, which is a big part of it, the same thing happened with Joe Hart.

He gets a pass because he plays for Everton, and the media don't really care whether or not we have a good goalkeeper. In that regard he is under much more scrutiny because he's English. The only reason there's any talk of him in the press at all is because he's England's number one. As far as the media/fans of other teams are concerned, there is absolutely nothing remarkable about us having a not very good player in the team, because we have loads of them, and have done for as long as anyone can remember. Throwing one in your own net (almost literally) in the CL final is always going to be bigger news than throwing one in your own net in a 10th place 6 pointer.

He was given a free pass on here for a long time because he was playing for England and had that one good tournament. As far as the press, Im sure youre right and he wouldnt get a mention if he wasnt playing for England.

Yet in 11-12 and 13-14 he had his 3rd and 4th best performing seasons for us, 12-13 was in keeping with his earlier seasons aswell. sadly mikefrandel youre clouded by your hatred of him

Carlo continues to pick Sigurdsson even though we as fans can see he is an atrocious footballer who offers nothing when he walks out on the pitch.

Except I’m talking about the performance of the goalkeeper here and not the performance of the defensive unit. Numbers on a spreadsheet do not interest me, I remember that season vividly. He made so many mistakes that season I remember specifically wanting Joel Robles to go in as number 1 from the second he walked through the door.

Ah the season when we then had the third best defensive in the league with yep, you guessed it, Tim Howard in goal.
