The only thing I can think is that he misread the trajectory of the ball and thought the ball was going to end up much closer to Gakpo, so he'd slide in.

Nevertheless, it was absolutely shambolic positioning and gave Salah an open goal.

Aye, like @Parker rightfully said, the three failures to stop the ball up the pitch are the cause of the goal. Gana should have launched their player into the stand.
