I’ve seen some attempt to blame the fans on here for poisoning Everton and contributing greatly to their demise by the arrogant toxicity they infect the players with, and I‘m not sure I can agree with that, but when you see the hyenas circling one of our own good players and one who helped keep Everton in the top flight last year It does make one wonder if those who do blame the fans may have a point.
Dear fine Evertonians of GOT it is our duty to show no mercy to these posters, they truly are the real enemies of Everton, and some call them worse than kopites and a treasonous poison we must cut out if we are to move forward. A little harsh in my opinion but I’m not one to judge.
I've never understood why we can't unconditionally support our own players, especially against rival fans and 'pundits', while at the same time being critical in a more objective way. E.g., the BBC sport campaign against Pickford is strange, because out of nowhere, when he's actually on form they'll run opinion polls on Pope, Pickford & Ramsdale. And don't tell me referees and the FA are not influenced by who they support, bias, and the media. But the only thing we've got that is real, is the relationship and support between us and players, even though it's largely based on money (just contradicted myself...anyway)
I think football would be a lot more fun if you could have in depth tactical , skill based arguments about players, rather than personal attacks which comment on their appearances, where they're from, or the little we know about their lifestyles. I'd love to talk about the relative skill sets of Pope, Ramsdale and Pickford, rather than debates which talk about 'small hands' or how tall they are. Whether their club is in form is fair enough, but Pickford has been outstanding for us and England, for a few years now, and there are fewer mistakes as each season passes. Even if players are rubbish, they're ours , and we do have a little bit of evidence that social media does influence the players, and so we could easily play a small part in boosting their confidence and their performances. I don't know about Ross Barkley and Antony Gordon - whether the boos or comments drove them away, and if they think Everton is not the right place for 'skilful' players, but that is also blown out of proportion. That famous incident when John Stones was trying to pass his way out of trouble at the goal line, and got frustrated with the fans, things like that do show there's at least a small element of our support that hasn't got patience with our fans, and even if just ONE real Everton fan posts about DCL's dress sense, or Pickford apparent lack of intelligence, that should be enough for us to circle around and show extra support for our own. FFS I'm even willing to find whatever is good about the very very average players we've had in recent times, (the list is endless, but I was still trying to look for goals out of Tosun, dazzling runs from Klassen etc etc, but it's ok, they're ours!
