Some are going over the top about the lad, but I think it's just a sense of relief that at last (since Martyn) we have a keeper at the club we have confidence in.

Southall and Martyn made mistakes. All keepers do. What they did though was martial the defence and game manage which Pickford does.

to be fair, fans were just surprised stekelenberg wasnt the worst keeper they've ever seen, so anything even remotely decent was a surprise.

People are impressed with pickford for the right reasons.

The situation is analogous to United's signing of de Gea several years ago - the club paid good money to acquire a young commodity that has already been proven at the highest level, and the only problem going forward will be fending off interest from bigger fish.

Ain't gonna lie Stek bought loads of cred from me in that match. We should have been tonked 6-0. Stek standing on his head and a singular moment of brilliance from Bolasie earned us a point.

I heard an interview with Mark Schwarzer and he said the coaches at Sunderland said that Pickford was one of the best technical players at the club and was more than good enough to play in another position.
