They need to because of the power players can generate, this is how you see a lot of deflections in professional footy go in and in Sunday league they hardly ever do. The media now have their scapegoat for the inevitable failure this summer.

Hart somehow got exonerated in the euros despite some horrible errors yet i’ll put my money on Pickford taking the blame for England’s exit even if he is flawless.

It will add to the collection of Jagielka and Baines being canned for 2014 (despite Gerrard’s backpass to Suarez) and then Barkley somehow getting blamed for Euro 2016 because he didn’t push the starting 11 enough.
