I'm too young to have seen Gordon West play for Everton, but I did see him play for Tranmere as a lad. One game in particular, I remember his shorts ripped. The sight of his wide open shorts flapping away as he flew through the air was burnt into my young mind. I liked GW mate, never forgotten the game he played at Maine Road when he had a massive abscess in his mouth and apparently played in excruciating pain throughout.
We lost to a late, late goal and Joe Corrigan said afterwards, it was one of the most impressive displays of goalkeeping he'd ever seen.
