I have got really mixed emotions about this. On one hand I think its great that Jose is already working with EITC and that we have been prepared to put our money where our mouth is and not hide behind the 'everyone deserves a second chance but meekly put our head in the sand when the lad has asked for our help.' As a community club we have no peers and it always brings a smile to my face how far Everton go to help in the community, to help former players and get involved in charity initiatives.....
However, like others have said I do think in Jose's case that a leopard doesn't change its stripes (pun intended). The lad has already had help from Everton from the old boys network getting him his contract at Oldham through Stubbs and Paul Gerrard and then getting to Sheff Utd with Weir. The lad has been caught with drugs in his system twice in 12 months. Who could be so stupid having already tested positive once to put themselves in that position to lose their livelihood again and so quickly!! Makes you wonder whether this is a Blue Bill idea for a new production as a rival to the Jamie Vardy story with Jose eventually making it at his boyhood club liverpool or whether Jose has a video of Bill and Bobby having a Tony Montana moment in the offices of Goodison.
Personally im all for giving people a second chance but when it comes to a third and fourth chance the door stays bolted and Jose should have gone to the bottom and worked his way up as far as I am concerned rather than being a massive shop window by Everton. Will be really disappointed in the lad if he messes this chance up but feel its almost inevitable.

Well done Everton for wasting time on a league one/two player. What is the point in this?

It seems now Unsworth is treating the 23's as an actual team now not a development squad!

This is an example of what makes this club great, special and different from the rest.

Pretty much everybody on here applauds our sense of community. This appears to be a prime example as such. We aren't giving anything of value up and we have a chance to save a life, The Fray style.

Yet the people whinge.

The mind boggles.

He's a RS? Who cares? There are bigger things in this world than petty squabbles.

what a massive over reaction to a non story ffs
WHAT DO YOU MEAN MATE THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS I LOVE A GOOD FUME HAVENT SIGNED A PLAYER IN OVER 2 WEEKS LET US FUME MATE, I MEAN LOOK AT THAT REPLICA KIT FOR NEXT SEASON I HATE THAT COLLAR AND I BET EVERTON ARE HIDING FUNDS IN THE CAYMAN ISLANDS AND THE ESK IS BEHIND ALL OF THIS TAKEOVER BUSINESS I BET MOSH ISN'T EVEN LOADED

WHERES THE DOCK STADIUM ANYWAY

ANNOUNCE STANLEY DOCK

And he is doing. He's been working with Everton In The Community over the last year.

He will be on a very basic deal, and afforded the opportunity to get himself fit and see if he can get into the U-23 side. Hopefully he gets his head down and earns himself a move to a new club. He's taken some wrong turns in life, but people at the club know him and i'd trust their judgement on this. I'm happy for us to give him this opportunity rather than let him turn into another Michael Branch.

Everton look after their own.

Personally this is a touching move by the club. Like you said, I hope this helps him find a new club and hopefully his life is back on track again. Hate this drug issue, it destroys everything around a person. Just reject the bad influence and always keep an eye for the one you love.

Im just throwing this out, with no substance at all.

Could the recent 'abuse in football' have any bearing on Everton putting their hand out to Baxter??

Just an idea, maybe we feel we need to do more for lads that pretty much gave up a childhood to come through our system.

I'm not remotely arsed about footballers wages. I am arsed about the club giving (a suggested) 5k a week to a lad who was given more than enough chance to sort himself out. He gets no pass from me.

(PS "build a bridge and get over it"? Really? Are you a 12 year old girl?)
Better a 12 year old girl full of hope and dreams, than a bitter old man full of hate and cynicism
