I feel we might of burnt the bridges with Southampton for this to happen. The whole che Adams saga hasn’t helped.

Why do people say things like this? Southampton want to keep Adams and have offered him a contract. Us signing someone else is doing them a favour, as is paying half of Holgate's salary.

If we are after him, and we dont sign him, he will probably be the one we are told about 3days after the window closes, that he was very close to us. There is usually one or about 5 players we get told we just missed out on, due to not enough time etc lol

Scout him before he signed for Southampton, miss out on him because we can only offer teams Klarna deals for their players. And then go back in for him as with Southampton down we have an opportunity to sign him?

Also, I heavily suspect us paying half of Holgate's wages is a sweetener to loan Sulemana.
The only criticism I have (if they are after Sulemana) is that I would have held Holgate as a bargaining chip for Sulemana. Obviously it’s not an equitable trade, but if they want one of ours, we keep him until we get one of theirs (or last minute in the window). They have him now and if they decide to mess us about then they can. Keeping hold of Holgate a little longer in the window, may have been more advantageous in trying to swing the deal our way.

They were forced to leave Adams out the squad on the weekend, as they said he wasn’t in the right mental state. Saints manager came out said he wasn’t in the right place, as he has been past pillar to post. That’s an obvious dig us. Common sense says it damages are negotiation stance with sulamana for example.

Counter to this is they might have then moved on from Holgate and we are stuck paying him full wages and then also don’t get a winger in. If we have interested parties to take some of the wage burden and the player is happy to go I think we are best off just going with that and working out the rest further down the line.

It would have been a risk admittedly
