Everton spent three years working on plans to build a new stadium at the Kings Dock - where the ECHO arena now sits - before scrapping the plan in 2003 after failing to find the £30m needed to seal a deal with the council for the scheme.

Your idol completely wrecked our chances of success, but don’t let facts get in the way of your delusion.

The council were as skint as Everton, Kings Dock was never happening

Nothing to do with the council the E. U were paying for it, Liverpool was classed as a deprived area and subsequently qualified for European object one funding.
Not to mention Sports England and the North West Development Agency chipping in.
The Kings Dock episode is/was one of the most shameful moments in our recent history. I hold my hand up and admit to having no inside knowledge whatsoever about the issue, rather reading whatever popped up at the time in articles and such like. What the overwhelming verdict was, was the duplicity of Kenwright and his cohorts.
Whenever I go back home to my true wool roots, I stand at the top of Whetstone Lane and cast a glance across the river, and don't know whether to laugh or cry when I see The Echo Arena and think of what might, and should have been.

And who will fawn at a wedding they are paying for, not been invited to and doff caps to their rulers...

Each to their own in my book. If it floats their boat, fine.

Hang on, this is a Kenwright thread ffs!

What will be will be with him. Soon is my observation.

The common consensus at the time was that Paul Gregg had promised to pay the £30mill as the clubs contribution, remember B. K quoting that this figure was ring fenced. Complications surfaced when Gregg wanted the revenue from events such as concerts from the stadium understandable seeing as this was his line of business. B. K rejected this proposal and hence the King's Dock sunk.

With the way the board has been restructured as well as a read DoF, it seems that Kenwrights influence on the day to day running of the team might be receding. I can see him being chairman for another season, suits moshiri to have a man there who some will always love as well as someone who'll take the flack if things start to go wrong again.
Eventually Moshiri will buy up more stock and Kenwright will be given an honourary position. No idea who'll be chairman tho.

Again, I am only recalling what I read at the time, and apologise in advance for any incorrect recollections, but for me, it was the constant mistruths spouted by Kenwright regarding the fabled £30m. When people a lot closer than myself to the actual goings on, were being told on a regular basis, that the money is there, we're just waiting for this and that etc etc these as we seemingly now know were blatant lies.
This was the age before the mass scrutiny that is now possible through forums such as this and social media. I'm not too sure they could possible get away with it now.

It'll be the Ruskie as Moshiri's frontman

It went further than just rejecting Paul and Anita Greggs offer of what was essentially a privately funded mortgage. Knowing he would be questioned "why" at the upcoming AGM he conjured up Christopher Samuelson who was representing the Fortress Sports Fund, they would instead provide the 30m and our troubles were over.

As soon as the Greggs were bought out via the tax dodgers front man, I forget his name... Planet Hollywood guy... The fortress sports fund disappeared.

Ian Ross, our paranoid Comms guy at the time has admitted the whole thing was "a means to an end" IE, allowed Top Blue Bill to keep his grubby little hands on what he firmly believes is his club.

I have seen some [Poor language removed] over the past 20+ years, but I have never been so annoyed as when his grid went on the big screen around the time of the Blue Union and people actually stood up and clapped!

When he finally goes, it won't be a celebration, just regret that it took so long.

Nil Satis Nisi oh I can't be arsed.

Apathy of the fan base is down to him.

Gets premium seats at every home game yet has single-handedly held the club back for nearly two decades. Could have been taken over by the Man City people, should have been at Kings Dock, took 15 years for his 'search' to eventually bear fruit, took a load of has-beens back to the club, including smackhead Jose Baxter and drink driver Wayne Rooney, for some reason, and still, after all this time, will not let go of the club and continues being involved in decision-making. The man is a disgrace and should have been hounded out of the club years and years ago, like the Reds over the park did with their unwanted ex-owners.
