Okay, I'm kinda sorta really really really really really excited now. Why?
We suddenly have depth. Not only depth to change the team weekly to our opponent and have a strategy based on opponent, but also because we have depth for the FA Cup.
What I mean:
Jelavic - Naismith
Pienaar - Fellaini - Gibson/Osman - Mirallas
Baines - Jags/Distin - Heitinga - Hibbert
Howard
Options:
1) Naismith/Mirallas can play striker or RM, alternate depending on who works best with Jelavic
2) Jags/Distin/Heitinga, alternate between them. Then add Duffy.
3) A 4-4-2!!!!!!!!!!!!
4) Play Osman and Gibson as appropriate.
Then when Landon comes in January, even more options!
Jelavic - Naismith
LD - Fellaini - Pienaar - Mirallas
Baines - Jags/Distin - Heitinga - Hibbert
Howard
Admire the creativity in that line-up for just a second.
Just look at it.
1) LD/Naismith/Mirallas/Pienaar can all interchange.
2) Bring in Gibson as appropriate. Bring in Osman as appropriate.
3) The pace on the squad suddenly has a huge uptick. We actually stand a chance of countering with that formation.
This makes me feel so much better about a few things:
1) Changing players around to avoid injuries. On average ALL of the players listed above (minus Duffy) will be starting XI. Why? We have enough games to make active subs and get players rest. This means fewer injuries from players constantly playing leading to a drop off in performance over Xmas and a dire situation heading into spring. Injuries happen. This gives us the opportunity to not skip a beat.
2) Having a well rested and active/fast team. Now all of a sudden you have depth to play with and it leads to people getting more rest and you having a great squad at all times.
3) The ability to change your squad depending on your opponent. Need more of a container against Man City? Play Gibson. Need more creativity? Play the above lineup against Stoke. Again, these aren't enough players to create a consistency problem - on average you'll know who you are playing with. But it gives you depth.
4) Creates competition for spots and hopefully some inspired play. Also lets you evaluate players' best positions.
5) We can compete both in league play and the FA Cup. Then when we make Europa (or higher) next year, also retains depth.
I have never been so excited about this team.
Can't wait for Monday.

Kay20, you do know Neville will start in midfield. Moyes popcorns like a pro, remember that.

Free Chang for everyone! Still buzzin' off this.
Pleased a player with pace is actually looking like he's going to sign ? Looking forward to see some silky fast skills from himI can just see it now, the ball drops to him on the edge of our penalty area, we have a chance of a quick breakaway, he races down the wing, beats three players and gets to the corner of the oppositions penalty area, looks up to see who to pass to, then alarmingly looks back and sees the rest of our team have just reached the half way line ???
