Kevin Mirallas

True but imo Kev didn't have much reason to go down. Plenty of other players have got away with similar moves though, just made his late tackle so soon afterward incredibly stupid.

Right, I have watched it now, Links.

I think he probably did dive but there is enough ambiguity for me to give him the benefit of the doubt.

The ref had the same view as I did and there is no way he could be certain that was a dive.

The bugger should have just waved play on.

That said, Kev should have stayed on his feet.....any touch the bloke got on him would not have felled my old mother.

Poor play by Kev either way there.

As for the second yellow........well, if the ref had produced a straight red for it, Kev could not have complained.

Very sad because he looked right up for it today and was having a splendid game :(

It was a dive. Sometimes you just have to go "hey, that guy in a Blue shirt did something stupid."

Leave the irrational defence of idiot players who don't deserve it to the Kopites. He took a needless booking for blatant simulation, then went in like an idiot for the second, and was rightfully dismissed - and the rat let his team, club and remaining fans down.

He cannot be relied on, he's not an asset any more, and he needs binning to the reserves until we can get a Galatasaray or something to take a stupid punt on him.

10 men from the 34th minute. Don't lose sight of the fact that ball bag left us to defend for 2/3rds of the game with 10 men.
Very, very true.

Of course, Martinez then took Lennon off and replaced him with a striker who did absolutely nothing. This made the situation worse. Barry should have come on at that point to shore up midfield alongside Besic and McCarthy, with Ross moving upfield in support of Lukaku. We needed an experienced, clinical thinker to oversee the defence of the lead - we had one available: we left him on the bench until the 89th minute.

Mirallas is not SOLELY to blame. He is heavily to blame, but the manager still has a responsibility to adjust to in-game developments. As we have seen far too many times now, Martinez failed in that regard.

as @oldblue said, I think Kev's attitude made the ref's mind up.

And after that should just taken it on the chin and watched his step, at least for the next 15 mins....he's old enough to know better.

Hold on - the manager made a big call in replacing Stones with Besic and we then got a pen from him that should have sealed it.

There's no scope for the 'manager made poor calls' critique today. The players failed to wrap that up and then bottled it.

Support Martinez but agree with you Tree, blame can be shared for this one. Real pity as the initial setup and the first sub were excellent.

But conversely does mean that when Martinez was blamed in the past for not bringing Kev on, there might have been very good reasons for it.
