…his negligence nearly cost us our top flight existence last season. i note lots of posters lauding him today, only time will tell how much he’s improved us after this window.

If he’s done well we give him credit but if we’re struggling there should be no excuses. Thelwell is a central part of the clubs governance.
You’ve never given him credit for anything

The Board…and the misinformation communicated to the Press. Why anyone would trust this board and the key people on it is beyond me. As I’ve said in another thread, Thelwell may not be good at his job, but we simply do not know.

An agent in the past has said we were disruptors (bidding for people when we had no money) and P McNulty has said we had to sell Iwobi because he won’t sign and we are brassic. I would believe them over a DoF deciding not to spend money, although he may be guilty of wanting value and not being a little more urgent about it.
So Leeds lied that we made a bid for Gnonto

And the board are briefing the press that we want 3

Then why didn't he sign a centre forward last summer instead of signing midfielders who don't contribute. After every fan knew we'd struggle, he coudn't identify a striker in January

No money…why is it so difficult for people to understand? The transfer for a person is the overall money you spend on someone…the amount of money you need to pay up front is a cash flow issue (are you an owner of a business because if you are you would understand this)

We have no cash flow (reported by multiple media outlets) so we are in a phase we are trying to ‘buy now, pay later‘. Clubs will not have this. That’s why the lack of transfer activity….surely the Beto deal indicates this? Udinese was a rare occurrence where they were prepared to wait for payment until next year

Do you believe everything in the media

I've become neutral to it all

Beyond a farce

Good that you ignored everything that went on last preseason

…leaving us without a striker last season is unforgivable in my opinion. We should never forget that as a baseline.

I have said if Chermiti turns out to be a good signing then Thelwell deserves credit. I said earlier today, moving Iwobi on for £20m was terrific and he should be applauded as long as he now brings in an effective replacement.

I will definitely give him credit but I won’t make excuses for his negligence. One of my pet dislikes is folk with fixed views, we should all accept when we judge wrongly rather than keeping blinkers on.

if this season turns out to be an improvement and we’re in that mid-table secure position, I will say well done Thelwell. I genuinely hope that is the case.

I don’t believe a chunk of it obviously…….but I think when a ‘respected’ BBC journalist says we are brassic, and an agent said we were nuisances in the market in the last window (because we had no money despite selling AG for a minimum of £40m) and I look at our expenditure this summer up until today, (Beto has no down payment), I tend to believe it.

Especially, when we have a new stadium and it’s costs on the horizon, with a want away owner who has funded it and is struggling to seemingly get full funding for thr remaining build after funding abiut 40-50% of it.

Quite frankly, I’m not sure why anyone would not be able to join the dots, other than just to blame the DoF.

I absolutely agree with the negligence part, and the unforgivable part. What I am saying is why do we not think it’s just the club pulling up the financial drawbridge? People are blaming Thelwell, (he may be partly responsible) but surely it’s obvious the club has no cash? Try buying players that are suitable for PL football in a competitive environment when there is no cash! it must be in incredibly difficult (Although not impossible)

If you tried to join the everton dots you'd end up in an asylum

Thelwell doesn't do himself any favours. Then again none of the board do

Who knows who makes the transfer decisions at everton. I wouldn't be surprised if its Mystic Meg

You see the bolded bits here are the contradictory theme of some posters here in a nutshell, how has he done himself ‘no favours’ and where is the evidence of this, if we do not know who makes the transfer decisions? This is the real confusion for me. People like to criticise him, without knowing what money he has to spend, and whether he is overruled.

In a nutshell, I do not know whether Thelwell is good enough…..no one does. I DO know however that the club‘s Board of Directors are sh1t and I blame the board for allowing this to happen. It’s mad that we all think this and choose to blame the DoF rather than them.

We probably paid 2 million up front for him.
Yep, it was probably the Simms down-payment money. In and straight back out.
That and the Cannon money will pay for him
ISS money has probably covered Danjuma and Harrison loans
Iwobi will pay for Beto
