2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

CHIEF SCOUT EVERTON FC LTD
Noticed there is not an open thread for the DOF so thought I’d start one.

How’s he getting on?

Done some early business which looked ok on paper. Not managed to get dom to sign the contract. Managed to keep Branthers. Secured the services of Begovic.

Busy few days ahead of him but looks like he needs to get some players out the door before we can sign Chris Wood.

And therein lies the issue with accepting mediocrity.
I'm fairly certain he'd love the wiggle room of a new owner bringing in some actual money to work with though mate..

We're still also in a situation where we seemingly can't even give away a handful of players who are, still, tying us up somewhat..

He needs to be directly asking the manager to explain why in a time of limited funds, he is starting Keane ahead of a CB (who played Ligue 1 and European football last year) we just paid 17m for.

The same question applies to the significant funds invested in Ndaye and Lindstrom relative to poorly performing manager favourites in their positions. If there is a breakdown in the relationship between the DOF and Manager on the selection of these new signings, it needs to be addressed directly.

Only way it gets addressed is one of them leaving, and in that case it has to be the manager - the DoF is the one entrusted with a long term strategy - which Thelwell under horrendous circumstances is at least trying to do.
