Koeman: "Barkley looking for a new challenge"

the papers love knocking little old Everton mate. If we'd have offered a poor contract they'd have been all over it and knocking us for it. Whether the contract is what Ross and his people feel his worth we won't know but it looks like the contract offered was pretty decent.

I think theres been a definite increase offered in any contract extension but not up to the level of the highest earners (my own guess to go along with those of others/the press). It will be a combination of that and the fact he really cant play for this manager - a manager who has made it plain from day one he has a problem with him. That's what's propelling him out the door.

Agreed completely.

However, you can look at that one of two ways. Either the manager is a bell and reasonable people don't want to work with him long term, or Barkley is delicate and needs smoke blowing up his arse, meaning he's mentally weak and no big loss.

I really don't know what way it is. I can see reasons for both - Koeman's ego is as big as his head, and Barkley has shown signs of mental fragility in the past.

The truth is it's probably a bit of both. All I do know is that Barkley could have been here 10 years, whilst Koeman will be gone in 2. So if Barkley reaches his potential, we've lost a diamond of a player possibly because of the whims of a temporary manager.

31 league appearances last season, that's the second-highest in his time at the club. Koeman can't have had an appreciable problem with him 'from day one,' can he?

I expect it's a mixture of both, rather than one factor. Koeman, like a lot of top players (and managers) has a massive ego. Ross strikes me as a little mentally fragile and needs love.

They will clash as Ross will be told he's a massive talent and RK will tell him he needs to improve.

It will probably be best for both personalities to move on from each other, although maybe not what's best for the club.

This. And he wants to get out of Liverpool (cos of the gangstar?) and plays regularly for England.

I don't believe the Koeman ego factor is valid because many others have no problem working with him.

You can play someone and still have them earmarked for the door.

He was quite literally our only senior attacking midfielder/playmaker. And he was too good to drop.

I don't think Koeman likes him at all - his demeanour in press conferences about him has been bizarre at times. Some people just don't click.

I agree with that. But everyone is keen to pile on either Barkley or Koeman over this. I imagine the truth is somewhere in the middle.
We can't have reason and calmness about such issues. Please refrain from this or I will have to report you.

Can't see it. Will be gone before 31/8 we won't let him go for free.

You've missed my point. I'll try again.

In the interview shown on the BBC website on Friday Koeman said he been told by the board at Everton that there aren't any bids on the table from other clubs for Ross. He was then asked if none came in would Ross still be allowed to be part of the squad for another year, and he said yes.

I am asking the following questions:

1) Is the interview shown on the BBC website on Friday old?

2) If the answer to question 1 is no - the next question is -> if Koeman has been told there are no bids on the table where has all the info about other bids or interest come from?

The interview was last Thursday or Friday

If it is for non football reasons he isnt that thick to think that if he's sleeping with some wannabe gangster's girlfriend in London, the fella will be ok with it?

Maybe he should think about controlling his own actions then he wouldnt be getting mixed up in all that stuff. Moving to London isnt going to suddenly fix the issue.

Also, as people have pointed out before, Gerrard had similar issues and managed to make them dissapear.
