Kone Signs on 3 Year Deal

Very disappointes with this transfer. Maybe it's because I remember how big a flop he was for Sevilla, but don't really like combination of price/age/level of player from our perspective, plus don't see him playing together with Jelavic which means we won't be able to use our personnel to maximum. Also very disappointed with Martinez, thought he will be able to do better on transfer market and will limit his Wigan signings to Alcaraz on free. What's next - Mc Geady?

A good review and some points I think people are missing out here on having options.

As everyone now knows, Arouna Kone has completed his move to Everton from Wigan, and has signed a three-year contract at Goodison Park.

This is a good bit of business from Roberto Martinez and Bill Kenwright, because the Ivorian brings some natural variation to Everton’s front-line and is clearly a different sort of forward to either Nikica Jelavic or Victor Anichebe.

Kone’s most obvious attributes are his pace and trickery with the ball at his feet, both qualities which neither Anichebe or Jelavic really have, but beyond that, this is an extremely intelligent player whose movement off the ball is very impressive.

At his best, Nikica Jelavic is a better finisher, Anichebe is unquestionably stronger and more suitable to a single-forward role, but Kone is an impact player and someone who can unquestionably force an opposition into changing their approach to defending. Beyond that, he’s also a multi-purpose forward, because he’s capable of playing in a wide-forward role – admittedly not to the same standard as Kevin Mirallas, but it’s still nice to have a diversity of options.

This isn’t the most glamorous signing of the Summer, but it may well turn-out to be one of the better ones: Everton’s forward line now ticks a lot of boxes

The manager puts it best:

“He’s powerful, his play with his back to the game is very strong, he links up really well, he can see a pass in the final third and he is a clinical finisher."

That'll do.

I like this!

Well let's hope Martinez uses Kone's strengths and doesn't have 11 men behind the ball for corners. If he's on get him on the halfway line and smash the ball to him!

Not necessarily. Kone and Mirallas could play either side of Jelavic.

I hope he is great for us and makes me look like an idiot for thinking he is a terrible waste of money.
