2018/19 Kurt Zouma

..I suspect Zouma was loaned to play. CBs are all about partnership and Mina plays very well with Sanchez at international level. Zouma and Sanchez are similar types.

Zouma will play because he’s a better option, the fact he’s on loan won’t matter when Silva is selecting his best starting X1.

well the rumour is the loan cost nearly 6mil so id assume he was loaned to play, I mean im only going off transfermarkt

For sure, I'm not complaining about us getting him at all, more whether he should be used as back up when long-term options aren't available, or whether he should play even when those long-term options are available. Up until now he's been utilised as the former, but with Mina now available he might also be used in the latter way, which is not so healthy imo.

Think we need him for pace because mina and Keane may be scary.

Long-term though I wonder about the wisdom of this strategy. At the moment he's (rightly) keeping Mina out of the side as he's playing well, but hopefully Mina will be with us for a while, whereas Zouma may be gone next summer. Short-term loans can work for lesser sides as they get hold of players they wouldn't ordinarily be able to get but I don't think a side with our aspirations should be looking at loans unless they're with an option to buy. We could end up with a situation whereby Zouma and Keane play the majority of the season, then in the summer Zouma leaves and Mina is peed off that we haven't played him.

If we're playing Zouma then we have to be working our backsides off to get a deal to sign him permanently.
My reading of the situation is that when we signed Mina and knew he wouldn’t be fit for a couple of months we got Zouma in as a stopgap to cover his absence
Hence the deadline day deal
He has worked out better than expected so is keeping Mina out of the team for now
I’d expect to see Mina/Keane as the pairing unless Zouma commits himself to the club
I can’t see Zouma getting into Chelsea’s first 11 anytime soon
As a caveat though I said the same about Barkley

..not sure Zouma committing himself to the club is a dependency on him playing, Bri. The manager will want his best players on the park.

And take the risk of getting Keanes back up ??
Keane looking for a move ??
Unless the plan is either sign Zouma on a permanent or someone with similar qualities next summer and keep Keane as backup

I dont think managers think like that anymore. Silva lasts in jobs for about 5 weeks so he wont be looking towards the future. It's all about the now.

I don’t think Brands thinks that way and he’s the main man now
Silva will want to restore his tarnished reputation of club hopping

Maybe so buts its still very much a results driven game, he will pick the best side that will give him the best chance of winning games.

Come next season we will need 3 quality CBS at least to manage all the European games so while some may lose time this season, they will get their fair share next season. I can see us wanting him permanently. It’s a squad and they all have their part to play.

I personally thought mina was keane's replacement, similar styles (tall, good in the air, good defender) whereas zouma was the partner to the big guy (mina/keane type)

we seemed to be looking at that type all summer if rumours are to be believed (Rojo etc)

I wouldn't have thought keane/mina would be a good partnership in that respect, I always saw it as Zouma/Mina, but keanes return to form has sort of messed with everything

I actually think Holgate/Mina or Keane, would be better, and that's probably how it was supposed to be seen

zouma (Holgate backup) mina (keane backup)

waffled a bit there but you get my point

..he won’t be in the least bit bothered about getting any players back up although he will always try and keep them all content. They are richly paid, they are employed by the club. The manager is in the results business, he can only pick X1 to play so a number will always be unhappy.

If he feels Zouma is better than a permanent player he will play him, I have no doubt about that.
