Transfer Rumour Lamine Kone

As much as I'd like him to come to us, would love to see clubs stop pandering to these spoiled brats.

That scene where the lads stop him outside the training ground. He's all poor me, "they promised me a contract & they've given me nothing"......

He signed a FOUR YEAR contract in January, which was no doubt double what he was getting in France & more per week than those kids see in a year! (If they even have jobs).

It needs to stop. We need a revolution! Ideally after Usmanov takes over & we win the Champions League.

Off for a lie down.

Why's that?

Think that post by @PhilM was a bit naive tbh but it depends how he meant it.

If you want to improve the squad overall - like we have had to in selling Stones - then the best option may be to let a player who seemingly wants to leave...

For one, it saves you paying 70k p/wk in wages to a player who may well still jump ship at the earliest opportunity and two, would bring you in a nice profit, which Moyes will re-invest wisely as that's what he's best at.

Then again if you want to make sure you're not in a relegation scrap (which I don't think you would be anyway) you'll need to keep your best players.

Agreed, and I'll stop watching the Champions League when you do.

I'm not at all sure he wants to leave - I think he just wants a bigger contract. He's now been publically promised that contract and can obviously expect it, as the Club aren't going to publically promise that and then renege on it. The whole thing just stinks of his agent trying to up the pressure and extract this new contract. First he turns up in Merseyside, at the same time the fact that he was "promised" a new contract but is still waiting for the offer is leaked to the press, then a fabled interest from Chelsea is leaked to the press, then we get this "transfer request" handed to Sky Sports. A day later, SAFC publically commit to a new contract for him and lo-and-behold, his head is back in the right place - he plays 90 minutes the next day and tells the manager that the "transfer request" had nothing to do with him.

We should be in a decent financial position as it is. As set out in my earlier post in this thread, we've got 11-12 senior players off the books already since May, who will account for about £500k per week off the wage bill. We've also got the same bumper TV money as everyone else this year and have not spent a great deal of that yet.

It's still possible that Kone will go, but it's less likely every day. Two weeks now until the window shuts and I can't see us selling him to re-invest, if we don't have time to re-invest properly.

Kone will sign a new contract using Evertons interest?? As s bargaining tool.

Imagine Everton being used as a bargaining tool.

Good times

I don't know how some of these lads turn up for training the next day when your fellow players know how much of a diva you have been.

Is there no shame?

Saying that, I'd snap his hand off if he wanted to come here.

Moyes at eveeton was the master of the very late in the window sale mate, happened a fair few times.

My pure guess is that he will be trying to get in a cb he 'trusts' before letting him go and think he will be angling big time to try get hold of his old Jagielka - wouldn't shock me to see him try to loan Jones or get him ont he cheap off United also, but jagielka i am certain he will be angling to see if we are willing to let him go

Why's that?
With Short looking at selling, my Mackem friend has suggested that it's unlikely they'll be spending as freely as he's authorised in the past.

Not sure of the truth in that and it's fair to note Sunderland have shown in the past that they're not scared of spending if need be.

However if it is correct, and with Moyes wanting to improve the squad, would offering a bumper deal to one player be in the long-run worthwhile?

Add to that if @The Esk is correct about Stone's departure being mainly to increase our ability in weekly wages, then we should have more leeway.

My point was that although I believe you could financially match any offer for Koné, I'm unsure if there'd be a willingness to do so by yourselves.

This is partly due to how it may affect other acquisitions, whereas because of Stones being sold we've got a supposed increase in wage capacity.

Hence it may have a lesser affect on any transfers we have in the pipeline than it may have on yourselves - it wasn't a macho statement et al.

Gutted..would love to see Galloway given another shot at left back, Thought he was incredible at the start of last season.Oh and mori ?, yes forgot about him....still unsure tbh

Aye Galloway just fell off the radar after a good start, no idea what went on there, but all the rumours are he's off to geordieland on loan with an option to buy...

We already need another CB as it stands, so that will mean at least 2 needed if Kone leaves. I just can't see him selling if it's not done this week. It would leave too tight a timescale in which to spend the money.

Crying shame really. Wasn't it an injury that stopped his progression ? I would love to see us keep him, He was deffo the brightest young star for me anyways in a very dull season.
Anyways...Kone ?? are we still in with a shout ?
