Transfer Rumour Lamine Kone

If there was an absolute determination to keep the player the contract would be offered now not after the window shuts.
I think it's difficult as Koné is a fan favourite but Moyes would like to sell for the right price and use the money to rebuild.
It's what he did for us, brilliantly, and this involved the sale of local hero Rooney.
Agreed, this sept.1st deadline is nonsense.
However, I do think the agent may have been playing games here, even getting the player to take a photograph with an Everton supporter with a club jersey was unusual.

On the contrary, surely it's sensible from our point of view?! The list of first team squad players no longer with us (released/sold/loan expired) since the end of last season includes:

Steven Fletcher
Danny Graham
Emmanuele Giacherini
Yann M'Vila
DeAndre Yedlin
Steve Harper
Will Buckley
Liam Bridcutt
Wes Brown
Sebastien Coates
Adam Matthews
Santiago Vergini

We've only been able to bring in three players so far permanently, and one on loan. This week, Seb Larsson was declared out for six months, and Lee Cattermole is about to have a hernia operation. On Saturday we gave an U21 midfield player his senior debut out of nowhere, and John O'Shea had to play in midfield for the first time for us. With the transfer window only open for two more weeks, we simply have more important things to sort out in August than Kone's contract. It's not going to kill him to wait another fortnight.

There are simply more pressing things for Moyes and Bain to be doing over the next two weeks than negotiating a new contract
Have you ever considered becoming an Evertonian? I don't mean any disrespect but you sound like one of our lot on here who come up with implausible explanations to persist in a belief that is not credible.
For our lot it's trying to reconcile the fantasy that we've got £100m net to spend with the reality of the transfer window so far.

I'm not entirely sure what's implausible about it. Moyes and Bain have been in the job three weeks, they inherited a squad with 13 senior professionals in it and the window shuts in 16 days time. In that context, it's not at all implausible that they will have told Kone (i) we will honour the previous regime's promise to you; but (ii) it's going to have to wait until we have actually put a squad together. Why should his new contract be top priority in those circumstances? He's only been with us six months and is under contract for another four years.

Would love Kone here.

Sunderland lads I know think he is far too good for their club and are amazed nobody else has been sniffing

He's done very well - him and Kabould have struck up a good partnership and seem to bring the best out of each other. I would have been amazed if the rumours of Chelsea interest were true though. He's not that good. Probably just more nonsense from his agent trying to up the wages.

Wouldn't shock me to see Moyes try to use Kone to leverage a few loans or 'cheap' deals off us mate in all honesty, theres a fair few of our squad players that i could see him trying to get there - rumours he wanted Jagielka etc, could see Cleverley as well as he has that utility Moyes likes to have - see Osmans importance for us for proof of that, could maybe even see him trying to get hold of McCarthy as well (Dowell, Davies, Kenny, Galloway and even Holgate (should we bring another cb in) - all young lads would actually be perfect for you btw to try to loan in as they'd all perform at this level - but no chance mpoyes will loan in any of them as he generally hates trusting young players)

Wouldn't surprise me either but at this point in time we have only got three centre backs on the books, and two of those are Kaboul (injury prone) and O'Shea (34yo), so as things stand we need at least one more CB this month even if Kone stays. Unless it was 20m+ I just can't see why they would accept it, given the squad situation as it is. It would also need to be done very, very soon so that we had time to re-invest the money. A deadline day, or even a last week of the window deal would put us in a very bad position.

Shame you let Vergini go. He was great to watch. Laughed my head off most times.

In his defence, he was cheap and did a decent job a lot of the time - he just ultimately wasn't quite up to it in the Premier League. He'll be forever remembered as the scorer of a scorching, 20 yard volleyed own goal at Southampton.

All of those players would be brilliant for Sunderland and knowing Moyes I wouldn't be surprised if he's doing exactly this to bargain for Kone.

Not sure we would be interested in any younger players to be honest - we have an excellent u21 set up at the minute and a number of those players are starting to break through into the first team squad. Add to that the fact we signed two more u21 players from Man Utd last week, and we really need to be signing more "senior" pros in the 24-32yo age bracket, with Premier League experience.
