Las Vegas

I have to say I kind of that attitude but was won over when I went there. Yes there are problems/issues like you say, what city hasn't? But it is a lot more than just casinos to see and do. Imho if anyone has the chance it would be worth it for the experience.

Like what? Genuinely curious. Honestly, from mates photos it´s just sitting by the pool all day and going to clubs at night.

Did 5 weeks in Vegas with work, was heavy towards the end. Too much temptation to go out every night as there’s always something going on. I loved it on the whole, though.

Been to San Diego since and it is a much better place, beautiful city.

5 weeks! 5 days and it starts to get heavy. Any more than a weekend is too much, for me, these days.

I went to a couple of exhibitions, took in a few shows including a medieval banquet like in the cable guy. There are a few small zoos/aquariums, where you can see the animals close up, like dolphins (broke my camera though the buggers with all their splashing). There are rides to go on. Walking through the hotels is amazing enough, the inside of the Venetian where you can go in a gondola if you have no intention of going to venice along it's indoor canals and it rains in certain places (which is actually nice seeing it doesn't outdoors), scale their Effiel tower in the Paris, Paris. See some exotic cars in a place below the Bellagio. Almost every hotel along the strip has a theme and it is done well. You can also use Vegas as a base to go out on route 66 and see the Grand Canyon etc.

About the last place on the planet I would like to go. The epitome of everything I dislike about humanity, bar one or two things.

My son in law and his family are obsessed. Apparently handing over enormous wedges of cash for nothing shows you to be a big man. They must use brainwashing via flashing lights or something.

Hear what your saying Chris but I’m sure even you’d enjoy mooring up on lake Meade for a couple of days.

Vegas doesn’t have to mean the soulless plastic vacuum that is “the strip”

Tho it can be fun.

Fair enough. Sounds like there´d be enough to keep you busy besides the gambling.

I just think I´m far too much of a Communist to visit America... Back to planning my summer jaunt to Belarus.

Yes I only did half an hour in the 4 days I was there and it was non stop, no sitting by the pool and sunbathing.

I wouldn't mind seeing a bit of Belarus, my wife is Armenian so I have been behind the old iron curtain a few times and there are some gems around.

Visa free travel when you enter via the airports... Great if you can find a flight.

Yerevan is very nice for a few days too. Lots of huskies and I liked the dancing water fountains at night.

Been there twice, 1981 and 2012. Massive changes in the intervening years -- the explosion of the Strip and the covering of Fremont for the light show being the big ones. Wasn't of legal age the first time (just shy of my 19th birthday, legal age in Nevada is 21), but was still drinking and playing blackjack in the Flamingo; it's amazing what you can get away with if you dress properly and don't act like an idiot. I've gotta go back at least one more time.
