Last Film You Watched

Another little cracker on the Horror Channel last night - The Divide.

Following a nuclear strike on New York, a group of survivors hole up in the basement of their apartment block.

First 20 mins are slow, but after that it's superb.

Not for the faint hearted, a film that's more about what happens to seemingly civilised people when there are no boundaries, rather than survival.

Don't let the kids anywhere near this one !

What do you make of Moon? I've just watched it and really enjoyed it on a sci-fi level but also the personal element. It was perfectly balanced for me.

Absolutely with you on this. So many potentially good films have pointless and entirely predictable emotional sub plots or love interests which pad out the story.

Moon was superb sci-fi. Nicely atmospheric, with lots of nods to other classic sci fi films along the way.

Moon is just a stand alone film mate, mainly due to the performance of Sam Rockwell.

I never get tired of watching it, even though it has such a tiny cast.

It`s near scfi perfection.

Haven’t seen Moon, but I don’t recall ever seeing a bad Sam Rockwell film. He’s quality.

Yes yes YES

All this talk about Moon - I had seen it a long time ago but absolutely loved it, I streamed it last night, bought the DVD today lol

Fantastic film

Moon is his best film mate.

He`s done quite a few dodgy rom coms, best we don`t mention them.

Brilliant, Really cleverly layered film and Sam Rockwell is just the perfect casting, Such a simple idea but it builds ...dont want to give anything away like but yeah you said it well... near scifi perfection indeed.

The Moon is deffo overhyped (Sunshine also to a lesser extent). I enjoyed it, a good 7/10. Good performance from Sam. Didn't take my breath away like many of yous.

For reference, my 9/10+ sci-fi are 2001, Children of Men, Altered States, Close Encounters, Enemy Mine, 1984, Clockwork Orange, Star Trek I extended (1979), Alien, Pi, Star Wars trilogy, District 9, Akira, Planet of the Apes, Matrix 1, X-Files (1998), Transformers (1986), Blade Runner, The Abyss, Terminator 1, Deep Impact.

All of this talk of sci-Fi makes me want to watch Silent Running again, my all time favourite. The big picture of man v environment, a man who puts the survival of earth above the demands of corporations. Add to that robots with personality years before star wars, an iconic ship* and music by Joan Baez. A stunning film which was very formative to me when I first saw it as a teen.

*film nerd fact - the ship model was later used as part of the armada of the original battle star galactica.

Pop quiz - what is the ship called?

2/10...horrible film, horrible man, horrible message. sorry to piss on yer chips, chris!

Watched The Revenant last night.

I’d put off watching it for so long because I knew it would be heavy going. And it is heavy going, but it is top notch.

The cinematography is outstanding, and combined with the sound design and acting, you can almost feel the cold and rawness of the frontier.

meh...6/10...worth a watch if you're in the mood for some moody landscapes...but never liked Leo in anything apart from Titanic.

Watched 'American Werewolf in London' again the other night. A bit dated but still very enjoyable. Van Morrison and Creedence in the sound track and a young Jenny Agutter

A bit too dated, except the actual transformation...that is still spectacular. Was a childhood favourite but on a recent rewatch dropped considerably to a 5/10.

bit of a cliche that: the world's ending, there be monsters...but no one is more dangerous than your fellow humans when they're desperate!

Moon is close to scfi perfection and Rockwells performance is faultless.

In the bin you go.

It changes, but generally will have these 10 in :

Blade Runner - either version.
Moon.
Let the Right One In - original version.
Donnie Darko.
Platoon.
Blade Runner 2049.
Apocalypse Now.
The Shining.
One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest.
Sinister.

all good films!

i still need to see the new Blade Runner...i've not been too arsed because of always being disappointed by new sci-fi films, plus not sure about the director: Enemy was a horrible film, Sicario & Arrival were really well-filmed, great spectacle, but no grip to the story or characters.
