Diamonds are forever

Easily Connerys worst Bond film 3/10
Not really an official Bond film that one is it?

It's official as any other Bond film. It's not made by the same people but holds the same rights as any other Bond film does in relation to Fleming's books - a legal argument that was responsible for the disappearance of Blofeld for all those years apart from that weird anonymous uncredited appearance at the start of For Your Eyes Only with the remote control helicopter.

And Diamonds isn't the worst Connery film.....of the official Eon films then Thunderball is the worst of Connery's and strong contender for worst of the lot. All the underwater stuff just kills it.

I googled a little of the history of that film and its a strange backstory. Havent seen Thunderball for a while, but I always remember it setting the template for the style of the franchise? Could have been Goldfinger though I’ll have to watch them again.

Money Heist
Elite
Farina (cocaine coast)
Carteristas (pickpockets)
Contratiempo (the invisible guest)
El hombre de las mil caras (smoke and mirrors)

Theres a few more, will try and remember...i liked the invisible guest especially and cocaine coast.
Thanks saw money heist. Thought the first series was excellent then it dragged on a bit. Will try check out the others

I think Goldfinger is the one credited with establishing the classic Bond template.

Thunderball's definitely a strange one - Poorly edited fight scene at the start with loads of undercranking and overlapping cuts that end up looking sloppy rather than giving an illusiuon of speed or dynamism. There's a promisingly silly plot that then completely flounders, some rather dubious spa based blackmail/rape on Bond's behalf in the first act and then laboriously slow underwater scenes littering the rest of the film including one of the most boring big battle set-pieces from any film...and more undercranking of the camera.

Add into that a villain who is more like a SPECTRE middle-management level employee whose main characteristic is that he wears an eye-patch and....well, that's it. Coming off the back of Dr.No, From Russia WL and Goldfinger it's a big drop in quality.

also the number one favourite of a fine old friend. i'm gonna have to finally watch it.

nice thread idea, i'd be interested in everyone's top 10 non-english films and why. after oldboy i think i'd probably have the spanish zombie-horror REC 1/2 in my all-time rankings.

  1. Kairo
  2. Martyrs
  3. Cinema Paradiso
  4. Howl's Moving Castle
  5. Amelie
  6. Amores Perros
  7. Grave of the Fireflies
  8. Pans Labyrinth
  9. Come and See
  10. The Secret in Their Eyes

That's exactly what i thought when i watched the first 4 Bonds in order recently. Haven't made it to nr 5 as i've got a feeling the first 3 were as good as it got (until Casino Royale).

Enjoy! Kairo and Martyrs are probably just for horror buffs, the rest are a little more mainstream

A Star is Born.

Aside from going in with no expectations other than "the missus wants to see it", and not knowing it was the 4th or so remake, I was genuinely impressed. Bradley Cooper oscar-worthy for me, and I never saw myself having that opinion.

Journey's End. Really gritty WW1 drama about a company of British soldiers in the trenches awaiting a German attack. Very good cast and really well acted. Just a shame they chose to name the film what they did, as it rather gives away the ending.
Based on a play (R C Sherriff) of the same name. First performance featured Laurence Olivier (1929).
