Last Film You Watched

Just started watching new series call 'Hannibal' about a detective who can empathise with serial killers. Good so far!

McBain, you must be joking! Django is one of the best films made in years! (I still prefer the orignal, but thats cos its so good). What could you possibly not like about it?!

Its boring, unoriginal in every sense and fails to really exist in the World it creates. The dialogue drags on. It's too tongue in cheek, the characters are cardboard cut outs, an in-Joke within an in-joke and you walk away not caring at all about any of them. Watch Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, even Jackie Brown to see true deconstructions of their genre. There are definitely some interesting scenes, but misses the mark on the whole for me.

I love Tarantino, but its a shame he has lost the sensibilities that made him such an original Film Maker.

Hmmm some of it was but I thought there were some great scenes and characters. The best being the dinner table scene. Samuel L Jackson's charachter was also very good. Also think it's probably his least dialoguey film if that makes sense. Death Proof was the worst for too much dialogue.

His worst film by a country mile is Kill Bill 2

Tarantino's films are ultimately driven by dialogue though, clever, thoughtful and interesting riposte between characters. Its what he became so famous for in the first place. He was basically responsible, among others for revolutionising 'Independent' Cinema into a more mainstream art form in the early 90's. He's forgotten its what you don't show, merely allude to that hooks your audience.

It was the second half of Inglorious Bastards which really let down a stunning opening scene, and he's not recovered yet. Django works on paper, and with the cast and setting, but I expect more realism from which to able to twist the story in a Tarantino way. Think Tim Roth 'Mr Orange' being instructed and then relating his 'amusing anecdote' or De Niro being goaded to the point of murdering Bridget Fonda in Jackie Brown. Christopher Waltz has been the only shining light his work in the past two films in which QT just seems to have lost his sense of realism, to the detriment of the story.

Hadn't seen it in a loooooong time...felt like a kid again

Haven't seen that since it came out, but I read the book the other day and its tops.

Thought it might be something up your alley, love a good conspiracy movie, especially when the atmosphere and acting is done well. Terrific story, and something that could scarily materialize one day.
