Last Film You Watched

Really liked The Batman. Beautifully shot, and loved the detective noir style to it.

A rewatch might show it to be 30 minutes too long, but it flew by for me first time through.

I really liked the fact that it just dropped you in the world, and let you figure it out, I can do without seeing the usual Batman backstory….again.

The Dark Knight’s treatment of The Joker was similar, in that he was just there, fully formed, and it worked fine. Give audiences the credit to be able to understand motivations and character without explicitly spelling it out.

Very good right up mate.

I really hope the follow on they do with the Joker, is just as good.

Yeah, The Joker was seen as a bit untouchable after Ledgers’ performance in The Dark Knight, but Joachim Phoenix showed that it can be done well.

I can actually take or leave the Joker movie (feels a bit derivative of Taxi Driver and King of Comedy to me), but the central performance in that movie is great.

Went to watch this last night.....f*cking brilliant. Everything I wanted and more! The on screen chemistry between Pedro and Cage is great. It's a crazy rollercoaster of peak Cage, if you like him (even if you don't tbf) you will not be disappointed!

Go and watch it, switch your brain off for 2 hours and enjoy the ride! Wooooooooo! ;)
Watched it myself last Friday. Bloody brilliant.

I think they're maybe just aware that everyone in the world knows Batman's origin story. If they did it in this film it would be like 4 hours long with Batman Begins tacked on the beginning.

You're right, and I would be a huge advocate usually, but theres no introduction to the world within this film. Look at Joker, there's a structure, the character and our perception of him is constructed throughout the film. There's a baseline to start off from and then you have the creative freedom to take it anywhere.

And on reflection the story is just boring. What are the reveals, what has been done differently, what has this brought to the table? I'd say absolutely nothing. Even the 'trailer' shot of the Bat-mobile randomly jumping through an explosion is a rip-off of 'Machete'.

Even Alfred has been neutered - this from Serkis :
“Bruce is on this nihilistic journey, and they’ve pulled apart … It’s got to the point where they almost no longer talk. If they bump into each other in the corridor, it’s a very icy and painful greeting. They almost live in separate worlds now.”

It's just not Batman, they should have directly done 'Hush' or 'Batman : Year One', would have made much more sense.

The Bruce Wayne/Alfred relationship really annoyed me. Bruce is constantly a complete Cressida to Alfred but we have no context of why. He repeatedly reminds him he isn’t a Wayne and he isn’t his father (even though he has basically brought him up). One of my gripes after seeing it was that I didn’t care about or really like Bruce Wayne and as a result it was hard to really care that much about Batman.

Not quite true to the thread title, but watched these in quick succession.
1) Da Five Bloods. Rollicking nonsense but a soundtrack that was magical.
2) Power of the Dog. Beautifully filmed and brilliant acting.

O I meant to.post about this, I can't stand Cage but I watched it anyway and loved it, it's top entertainment, well worth a watch

watched Spider-Man No Way home today, usually like Marvel films but found this to be a bit meh. First act seemed a bit forced like they had way too much film and edited it in a cobbled together way and the rest of it just wasn't that good. CGI etc pretty poor for some of the cameos. seemed just to be a vehicle to move the MCU on in this multiverse direction.
