Last Film You Watched

One for @Rita_Poon, eh? 😜

Ta for this, mate... Just so you know, I've had that bloody Goo Goo Dolls one hit wonder song 'Iris' stuck in my head for the last week, FFS! šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø
You know, that song they wrote for that soppy, romantic chick flick that Nic Cage was in?

FYI... Perfect viewing for all you lads, and the missus on Valentine's Day. 😜

'And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am!'

There! Now I hope that it's stuck in all of your heads as well!
Always in my head, fantastic band between 87 and 01. But then they chased the money and tried to recreate Iris with every song and they turned into a pile of s____e

Also, City of Angels is a decent film, not as good as the original German version from the 80s called Wings of Desire. But it’s still a good premise.

First blood second drop? Awful. The first one was ok, Dennehy makes a good baddie. And it's comments re Vietnam vets and their treatment after was refreshing. Some hilariously bad movies were made in the 80's. Also the effects in this for 1985 are woeful, (Predator 1987, Aliens 1986, Terminator 1984, Evil dead II 1987, The fly 1986) in an age of boundary pushing and big budgets for brainless films, this is a dud. Soz p_b.
I will say this, mate...
Rambo 2 is FAR better than Rambo 3.
You know, the one where he takes on the whole Soviet army, and singlehandedly drives them out of Afghanistan all by himself?!?
I mean, there was that one scene where took out that HUGE Soviet gunship helicopter with just his bow and one arrow! 🤣🤣

Well it's 25 years later and 'Iris' STILL gets major play on the air waves! If they haven't amassed a small fortune on the royalties by now, then they've done something wrong!

Oh yeah they’re absolutely minted now, they could have given up 15 years ago and saved us from the drivel they’ve been serving up since.

Terminator 2: Jugdment Day
Now that's how you do a sequel. I remembered even less from this than the first one. Very good film obviously, as you all probably know already. I think I prefer the first one slightly over this one though, as it's got so many iconic scenes. 8/10

Great film, one of the few great sequels but is probably the root of all evil, film wise.

The first movie that I can think of that went all in on CGI and opened the flood gates for an awful lot of trash to come through.

Think it was the conversation the other day about Indiana Jones and it set me thinking. Before CGI, the limitations of practical effects meant focus was on character and story.
CGI meant any talentless idiot could churn out a 90 min CGI fest (Michael Bay, Paul Anderson) and call it a film.

Shame Rea

I thought that they`d used a body double for that scene, as you only saw him from the back !!
I've just double checked and apparently it was a joke Rufus Sewell made to a journalist and surprise surprise the Daily Mail reported it as fact .

Shame really that with the excellent prosthetics that were used , they didn't decide to go for the full monty ! not literally though 🤮 šŸ˜‚

The Stoic. It was pretty crap really, which was a shame because it could have been a lot better.

So you're telling me that it's just a bang average action movie that's full of insipid, uninspired clichƩs, and that it has absolutely nothing to do with Stoicism? The school of philosophical thought that emerged in Ancient Greece, or it's founding philosopher, Zeno of Citium?!?

Well F' me then, it's already a major disappointment straight off the bat! šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

Seven Deaths In The Cat's Eye (1973)

Italian made Scotland set gothic horror Giallo that comes across about 10 years older than it actually is. Not bad though, plenty of red herrings and some actual decent bits of film-making...among some not so decent bits. Serge Gainsbourg as a Scottish detective is a bid odd.

Worth a look if you're a Hammer Horror fan.

Well........no. Not really.

It had a TON of practical effects that still can't be beaten today. Like a stunt man running from a small pickup onto the hood of a semi at 60mph. Like them flying a helicopter UNDER a freeway bridge. Those aren't CGI. Real humans performed those.

Also, the Abyss was essentially the testbed movie for the T1000 effects. It refined those effects, yet still blended them with practical effects, IMO to just about perfection.

They all sort of evolved very quickly - the Abyss for Terminator 2 which made Spielberg see the potential for Jurassic Park which in turn allowed Lucas to put his vision for Star Wars prequels on screen.
