Last Film You Watched

Watched 300 when it was on before for the first time in ages.

Love the story of the Battle of Thermopylae and the state of Sparta in general so it was sound, but I can't help feeling that they completely nicked the death scene from Gladiator. Whether the cornfields and family aspects are symbolic of an ancient idea of Heaven or not I'm unsure, but they had similar music and everything.

Still good though, and the way it's told from a Spartan viewpoint so they can use fantasy elements is clever and done well.

Film: 7.5/10
Gerard Butler: 10/10

TBH the music in 300 is nicked off Titus, not Gladiator.

As for me, I watched Belle last night.

Watched live, Die, Repeat over the weekend. Tom Cruise has previously been on my boycott list but I enjoyed Jack Reacher so he is off the list for the time being.

I watched this with low expectations and was surprised, quite entertained by it.

But, I can see Tom being boycotted again as I expect the new mission impossible to be awful.

Correct. Honestly so so so bad.

Coyote Ugly pisses all over it.

It goes on for over two hours.

I saw it in the pictures with an ex. All I could think was " At least I'll get me end away " but then she pissed on that fire by telling me she had the painters and decoraters in.

I could have slapped her for making me watch that.

Ha!

You know how some girly films are at least manageable? This one truly is not.

Watched American Sniper over the weekend... "Meh" sums it up.

It's yet another Marine Corps/SEAL wankfest with more "Hoo-ra's" and "get some's" than you can shake a drone at. If you've seen any of the other 900 similar films (Jarhead, Hurt Locker etc) then you'll know what to expect.

The interchangeable plot device this time is the story of supposedly legendary Yank sniper 'Chris Kyle' who headshots his way through every man woman and child that appears in his line of fire.

It's directed by Clint Eastwood and tbh I expected better from him. Instead it's a run-of-the-mill Iraq war, US back patting exercise.

I give it 3 dead children out of 10

Disagree myself. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Interesting story too. It is very pro America, but if you expected different then you're daft!

I probably would have enjoyed it more if they had been a bit more true to Kyles character. By all accounts he was a bit of a nob in real life and was quite a controversial character. I felt it was far too sentimental for me, but each to his own ;)

Damnit, why didn't I read this first?! I didn't really like it either. In fact, I thought I didn't mind it, but now I read your review, I see exactly where you're coming from and I feel like I am kidding myself, it was actually pretty rubbish. I liked the first 20-30 mins, but boy did it drag on.

Also, that American bird, the one from Frances Ha - is she the worst actress ever to grace the screen? I wasn't sure if it was some weird dream-scene, then I realised she's just awful. Wooden doesn't even describe it. She was fun in Frances Ha but that was down to the way it was filmed.
At least we weren't alone in our suffering! Not seen Frances Ha, any good? But yeah she was terrible.
Like I said the reviews have been stellar, I can't get my head round it.

Frances Ha has a very quirky indie film feel which definitely suits her style, but Eden would prove she's not remotely versatile.

Best part of the film was Daft Punk never being recognised. That at least raised a smile.

Frances Ha is great, very similar to Coffee in Berlin if you have seen that. Disagree about Greta Gerwig @The Cowboy , she was great in Greenburg and Damsels in Distress. Her next film, Mistress America is meant to be her 'breakthrough film'.
