Last Film You Watched

Tangerine - A low budget (shot on an iPhone) comedy/drama about transgender prostitutes in LA. Genuinely brilliant.

Yeah quite decent that, kinda had a goodfellas vibe but thought depp looked a bit weird, dislike a few of the actors aswell so never really fully took to their characters

Yeah his look got really weird at points, especially the dinner bits at his brothers and the other one.

Laughing at the amount of actors in it that are dead recognisable but aye their characters weren't great

Heard Chronicle is really good.

Watched Chronicle at the cinema last night. was decent but it is a found footage film which wasn't' necessary in my opinion. worth a watch but could easily split opinions.

Chronicle

A grand total of five people in the Cinema for the 2:30 session gave me and my oldest mate the best choice of seating and we sat, semi audibly dissing ad after ad in that front row on the aisle, dead centre so we could put our feet up on the the little carpeted wall. We’d got in there bang on time and he’d got the tickets off his old man as a B’day Prezzie. That didn’t stop him, after the fifth ad to start complaining that if he ‘had’ bought the tickets he’d have walked out by now. Directed by Josh Trank, on debut, and co written with Matt Landis, Chronicle is a superb film. It’s not perfect by any means, and I had reservations when reviewers compared it with Blair Witch, or Cloverfield for the ‘handycam’ technique. I saw both of those on the big screen and while Blair Witch had a eerie kind of originality while giving nothing away, Cloverfield harangued your senses into a nauseous unreality with its constantly jarring visuals, while still giving nothing away. I’m happy to say, though, in principle the technique employed here is the same, but the Direction avoids the same problems. It’s the unveiling of the plot which allows the technique to become fluid; a brilliant device and by freeing up your mind on who and how they are capturing the image, it never overshadows the unfolding events of the second half of the film. The effects are effortless. Photo-realism ala Fincher. I won’t go into details of the plot, other than to say that its one of those rare films that goes exactly where you think it should, stylishly and with an uncanny realism of things you would actually do if you happened to one day be blessed with Telekinesis. 5 Stars.

Chronicle, which I really quite enjoyed it actually.

Chronicle is boss. I don't care what any of you say.

Saw this last night...very good! Instantly became my favourite superhero film, alongside the original Superman. Clever use of found-footage, sound acting (that Andrew actor is bound to be a Bond baddie when a little older). A few jarring weaknesses, spoilage maybe:

The black guy dies first...sadly not a spoiler as it always happens, some comic-book logic, the ending is far too kind to Andrew (who was a monster) and his Dad was drawn very OTT. But other than that it was great fun and should've had a sequel already, it made ten times its budget so don't understand why there's no new film in this era of franchises.

NEA if one is white, I suppose.

It's really noticable otherwise, we're talking fellow cast not A-listers: either dies first, or is killed off before the end (mostly without the traditional "final words" scene dying white people get), or is hiding some bad snide. Bit jarring once you notice this trope, probably similar to how women feel about the Bechdel Test.

Sky Movies Premieres are pretty lame this week. Opted for Blackhat. The Americans and Chinese cooperate to foil a hacker committing atrocities over the internet. The only guy who can help is in prison for previous hacking and who just happens to have been the college room mate of the Chinese expert tasked with dealing with all this. Throw in the fortunate occurrence of a hot sister accompanying him from China and I think you could pretty much figure out the rest.

Another watchable if nothing else film.
