Last Film You Watched

Watched half of Fight or Flight. Literally a poor man's Bullet Plane. Think it has been largely poorly received on here, but I don't mind it so far tbh. Some decent action/fight scenes. The female lead is quite good, and the male lead (poor man's Brad Pitt) isn't too bad.

Watched this for the first time in yeeeeeeeers last night. First saw it aged 5 on VHS....traumatised me... especially the fella who had slit his wrists and throat at the start and he was frozen, blood and all...nightmare fuel.

The practical effects are stunning - nothing comes close to it over 40 years later. Great mood and suspense to it and the sense of isolation and paranoia is so well put together. A great cast and it's played so well in terms of ensemble acting and Kurt Russel is a solid anti-hero lead. Carpenter absolutely HAD it in the 70's and 80's - a shame his later output just doesn't compare.

Watched this last night. It's actually a pretty effective crime drama. The real-life case is fascinating. Loads of theories about what actually went down. The endless sequels have of course got more and more silly (What next - Rise of the Footsoldier IN SPACE??) but the original is very good I thought. Some brutal violence, ultra-sweary script and it's shot with a gritty cinematography. Cast is actually pretty good. Lots of familiar faces. It's a tough watch at points (Especially the infamous Range Rover slayings) but has some flashes of black humour (tony's wig and bad 90's leather jacket are hilarious) and the lead hard-case is pretty well played. Check it AAAATTT YA SLAAAGS!!!! wFApSI3zJiVw0jsWUc3NnzoMH2j.webp

Finally got around to watching Anora.

Decent film, certainly not Best Picture worthy in a stronger year. It's not even better than The Florida Project in my opinion.

But good film overall, and Mikey was good in it, but not great. Believable as a stripper, but outside the club I thought she was only OK. I just couldn't get past the fact that in real life she'd be more streetwise about the reality of what she was getting herself into (without getting into spoilers)

Solid 7/10

I thought this was the most ridiculous waste of time. I only stuck it out because I thought it had to improve or there’d be a twist, but there wasn’t.

Nightmare Alley - Film4 last night.

Despite the stellar cast and being directed by Guillermo del Torro, it didn’t do it for me.

It was like a film in three parts :

First part excellent.
Middle part flat and uninteresting.
Final part picked up, but not enough to rescue the film.

They could’ve easily cut thirty mins off the running time and it’d have made no difference.

Beautiful sets and cinematography though.
I knew this'd been reviewed recently. It's on again tonight film4 at 9pm.

Because I'm a bit picky, he's sold Dafoe a radio for five bucks early doors. About 40 minutes later he's single handed built Frankenstein's tribute stage with van de Graff generators and smoke and sparklers, out of thin air. It's a minor observation, but it's a fairly large gap in our heroes journey.
