Viera to Citeh...

Roberto Mancini targets Patrick Vieira for Man City

Vieira has not played regularly for Inter Milan this season

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini wants to sign Patrick Vieira and the Inter Milan midfielder is interested in making the move, BBC Sport understands.

Vieira, 33, is believed to be intrigued by the possibility of returning to England, where he has not played since leaving Arsenal for Juventus in 2005.

The France captain is out of favour at Inter and wants first team football.

Other clubs are interested but Vieira sees linking up with his old Inter boss Mancini as his best option.

Vieira moved to the San Siro following a single season at Juve and won two Serie A titles at Inter under Mancini in 2007 and 2008. 606: DEBATE
If Vieira comes and doesn't do a job he will be on the bench or in the reserves. If he does a job it's a good signing

He had similar success during his time at Arsenal, spending nine years in north London after Arsene Wenger made him his first signing as Gunners boss in 1996.

Vieira made more than 400 appearances for the Gunners, winning three league titles and four FA Cups.

His last game in English football was the 2005 FA Cup final, in which he scored the winning penalty for Arsenal to beat Manchester United.

Wenger, who was linked with re-signing Vieira at the start of the season, feels he will still be a force in the Premier League if he does switch to Eastlands and understands his motives for a move.

"Patrick needs to play," explained the Gunners boss. "I was surprised about Manchester City's interest because there were more talks about other clubs but it would be a good opportunity for him.

"I believe he would still be very effective in the Premier League because he has been injury free for three or four months now and that is what he needed."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will launch a £9m move for West Ham striker Carlton Cole if Nicklas Bendtner fails a fitness test on Friday. "If Bendtner is out for another two months we will need to buy someone, absolutely," admitted Wenger.

However, Arsenal are set to lose highly-rated Spanish midfielder Fran Merida, who has snubbed a new deal at the Emirates and is set to join Atletico Madrid.

The Gunners are battling it out with Manchester United for Cardiff City's 17-year-old defender Adam Matthews, who is seen as one of the best prospects outside the Premier League

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has played down suggestions he will leave the club for Real Madrid, insisting he has "a marvellous understanding" with manager Sir Alex Ferguson

Bolton are prepared to cash in on £15m-rated defender Gary Cahill in order to provide prospective new manager Owen Coyle with substantial funds during the transfer window.

Tottenham have renewed their interest in Miguel Veloso after seeing the Sporting midfielder score in the Portuguese Cup win over Braga.

Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamack could be on his way to Liverpool after his representatives held talks with the Reds over signing a pre-contract agreement.

Liverpool have turned down Birmingham's £9m bid for winger Ryan Babel, as the price falls short of their £12m valuation

Andrea Dossena's agent claims a deal to take the Liverpool defender to Napoli is all but done. "I believe the player will arrive in Napoli tomorrow," Roberto La Florio told Tuttomercatoweb

Notice nothing about Everton. We have done all our biz with Landon.

Jeez Robert I would have thought you of all people would have known better.............we will do nothing until 16.00hrs on the last day mate.............it is only then it becomes exciting

At which point, Moyes two new signings after he signed Donovan, which has already been reduced to one new signing, will change to Donovan being the one new signing he was talking about at the beginning of January.......... such is the creative maths that likes to get used at Goodison (y)

Either that or we'll buy another right back

Sounds right to me......just got to wait until the last day now:lol:

Hmmm - so far we are the only PL club to have a confirmed signing - when was the last time we were ahead of the transfer curve?

To be fair, Moyes has said that whoever he brings in will be on loan, and there's not usually a lot of players available on loan, specially in the January window.

Well I for one do not count taking a player on loan for 12 weeks as a new signing. For me a new signing is player coming here and signing a 3/4 year contract, that is a new player not here this week gone in 12.

..until he scores the winning goal against Citeh (or even RS) - then I suspect even you will count him, RJ
