League Cup

Of the Premier League teams to face, West Ham have to be up there.

It could all change of course, but they’re in a mess at the moment and this game is 12 days off, hopefully another couple of defeats would be enough to see Moyes swerve it off.

We’re not even there though yet, let’s see off Fleetwood and hope Hull like beating a max of two prem teams in the cup this year.

But there not, there bigger then they have ever been, which is why top 6 clubs and managers go for it.
Years ago the league often had several potential winners, now it's a two horse race. But the other clubs want silverware too.
In the past decade, 2 cups, that's 20x winners, how many of those 20 honours have gone outside the top 6?
Big clubs win stuff, if we want to consider ourselves a big club again we need to also put pots in the trophy cabinet.
Nah they are massively devalued. The big teams win them because they have the best squads, everybody makes loads of changes but when the good teams do it they're still bringing in better quality than the lesser teams have got, so they still win. That doesn't change the fact that they are honours, and a route into Europe, and therefore something that I would desperately like us to win. They're nowhere near as relevant as they were though, even Arsenal fans are bored of winning the FA Cup because they see it as a poor man's trophy.

Silly I know, but I rather like us to take every game seriously and win it.

That said, we can still do that and send out a team capable of doing the job, and maximising use of the squad in the earlier rounds. Get to the final and turn up on the day for some silverware.

I'd be delighted to win it, but not happy with the "prize" that follows but I guess that's another argument.

We would still need to have an acceptable season in terms of an improvement on our league position and points total, but you couldn't really argue that an LC win should be achieved at the expense of your league position.

2 tricky games to negotiate, but get past Fleetwood and then the bubble blowers and we could be in the last 8 of this competition before October starts. This comp gives us our best chance of silverware this season and Carlo will know that. I’m sure he’ll take it seriously and put out sides that he feels are capable of getting the job done.

The Qtrs aren’t until the week before Christmas so if he uses most of the first XI vs West Ham it’s hardly going to over stretch us.

I have said a number of times I would love us to win this, think the closest we came in recent seasons was the semi where we led in the first leg went out to Man City, they scored a goal where the ball went out in the build up, but the ref gave the goal.
This season it is one leg semi finals.
Just not sure we will have fans back in the stadiums by the time the final happens. That would be be proper Everton, first time we win a cup in 25 years and there's no fans in stadiums lol

Pretty much my point, I'd be ecstatic if we won any of them but they have massively declined in prestige down the years.
