Because the mainstays are a year older and what little pace they had is disappearing over the hill

Yes. How bad we've slipped to is still sinking in all round I think. I wanted Unsworth in before Koeman and it's gonna be doubly difficult for him now given the money spent, injuries and age of so many of our previously 'big' players.

The lack of pace is the big one for me - much as I love em Jags, Baines and Williams are probably a wee bit past it now. BUt we're not gonna get a new back 4 before season end, so DU's the man to fix that.

its the defence, williams and jags are not up for 4 at the back. With 3 at the back, you lose one in the midfield. Central defence has been a major problem.
