2018/19 Leighton Baines

Plus I'd be amazed if we haven't slashed his weekly wage too, possibly down to £40/50k.

I didn't think that he was on much more than that during his current contract?

It would be insane to offer him that amount of money, he isn't worth it anymore. My last memory of Baines playing for Everton is one where he got skinned with ease by some Wolves player. He's too old and slow now.

He wouldn't get that type of money anywhere else.

In fairness Bains should never have played that game as he played injured
I thought no he was subbed not long into the match if my memory is right

Why would any player want to finish his career as an under used substitute.

History is littered with them mate.

John Terry and Gary Cahill, immediately spring to mind, looking like Gareth Bale will be doing the same at Madrid too.

Is it worth disrupting your entire family for one more season, when you can stay put in semi retirement ?

Depends on the player though.

Pretty sure he became our highest paid player (at the time) when he signed his £80kpw contract.

Reckon it will be about halved for his new contract. I don't mind that if it's only a 1 year deal.

Surely you want to play footy as long as you can mate

Baines owes us nothing - if I was him I’d go and play for Wigan for a few years, they’d welcome his quality and experience and he’s hardly likely to be short of money so wouldn’t cost the earth if he really just wants to play

I don't know. If I were an aging footballer at the end of my career I don't think I'd want to transfer to a Championship team for a year or more of getting kicked to pieces.

Then again, that's the kind of attitude that's kept me a specialist in non-achievement.
