Yes. No contradiction there though. We were in the gutter selling all kinds of players and faced with a PL attempting to throw us into the Championship.

No one should be getting their first chance in management at Everton, especially based on purely how popular a player they were.

Unsworth had a very good record in the reserves, got players into the first team at a better rate than anyone before or since, yet because he wasn’t a popular no one fancied him as No1.
