Leighton baines

I remember the FA Cup semi against United under Martinez and they had a tunnel cam which you could hear what the players were saying, we were playing crap and Baines was heard to saying to the others something on the lines of "it's a big pitch and we're making it bigger for them".

I reckon he'd definitely voice his opinion
All I get now is that Baines is Father Ted and the rest of the team are a bunch of Dougals.

Was that where Jagielka is shouting at Barkley in the tunnel at half time "Roscoe, Roscoe, they're not booing you Roscoe"

Funniest programme of all time that documentary:

"Mr Linesman, let me shake your hand. I just want you to know you've gotten me the sack".
He was stitched up wasn't he. Part of that era where documentaries were creeping in round the edges of some of the old school characters (similar feel to 'club for a fiver'). And obviously some of Taylors previous opinions and chastening relationship with an overtly hostile press that couldn't have a go at him enough meant he was a gonner. Club level he'd been good and brought a lot of players on. Suppose it cleared the way for Venables and a really good euro96. (press involvement and the pressure meant he walked, then Hoddle got a go and again the press were mithering about Eileen).

Anyway, Baines, good for him, Coleman, Irving and Moyes. I wonder who might end up scouting a few players longer term.

Oh he certainly voiced his opinion when he sensed a manager who replaced the manager he preferred was in trouble and so he stuck the boot in.

He never forgave Martinez from preventing his move to United and Moyes that first summer.

Couldn't keep his trap shut after that..

I watched him on CH5 coverage of an Everton Europa League match when he was injured and so was in the pundits box. He slagged off the team and manager at HT. The biggest betrayal it's been my misfortune to witness.

Baines is a 🐀.

Yes, he was targeted by the too cool for school footy press corp of that era who thought they were better than the utter slugs they were in actuality.

I had a sneaking admiration for Taylor. A decent man in an industry full of scumbags.

I can just see Baines inviting Martinez around for dinner.

I am serving 4 dishes boss. Gazpacho, Salad and ice cream
What ez the fourth dish Leighton?
Like all those dishes, this one is also best served cold ..... REVENGE!
This betrayal is phenomenal.

Martinez would blank him.

Baines firing Martinez was cold - just a few words after a game but Bobby got a lesson in power that day.

Personalities aside Baines may have secured the future of this club when he stepped in there - club was on the skids heading for a relegation battle with Martinez at the wheel. Doesn't bear thinking about if no one had intervened - we'd be playing Fleetwood Town next Saturday in all likelihood.

Baines is 1 of us.

He did Everton a service that day, shone light on a failing manager.

All Everton fans should be thankful to Baines.
