Felt sorry for him last night. As he was applauding the fans at the end, a chorus of something like "Leighton got Bobby sacked" got sang and he just didn't know how to react.

If you come out with a big statement like he did you need to back it up with big performances on the pitch. From left back it's difficult to influence the game but he's been poor since returning from injury.

Although different, Newcastle's Jamaal Lascelles criticised his team and teammates and followed it up with massive performances against Swansea and Man City.

Felt for him last night. Injuries have taken their toll and he's always needed someone in front of him to link with.

Deserves a trophy like no other.

Distin, Howard etc all pale into insignificance compared to Baines.
'Oh, they've been great servants.' To an extent yes, but this is Leighton Baines.

He was one of, if not the, best left back in world football at one point.
Told United where to go when they came knocking.
Forever one of us.

It hurts thinking that he might hang up his boots without winning some silverware in the royal blue.

Sheer class at his peak.
Don't write him off just yet.

Hampered as per usual by a lack of any support on the left. Hard to blame him for not bombing forward much when a) there's often no-one for him to link up with and b) he's usually defending against two players.

Reckon he just hates Martinez and like some of his old mates, especially Timmy Cahill, he much preferred the Moyes days.
