Took his goal very well. Quick feet to get the ball under control (looked slightly behind him). Nice to see one of his shots hitting the back of the net for once. Given the stick he gets from some supporters, a goal by Ossie is more needed than other players to placate the baying, foaming-mouthed mob.

He certainly has goals in him - just needs to hit the target and goal corners more often.

I like him, always have, there I said it. We know he isn't a worldbeater but he is a good squad player to have and if he can have one of his purple patches of form from now to the end of the season then we may just sneak a champions league place. If we get europe next year he will be an asset whether it is in europe or the league games either side as we rotate the squad. Rather have him as a squad player than a new signing unless we get a great player but they cost money we won't have.

I think what I like most about Leon is that he has other footballers best interests at heart, he cares about his fellow professionals and refuses to go for a 50/50 tackle game after game to prevent any unnecessary injuries.

Top pro, and an all round really nice guy. If we have anything to thank David Moyes for then it's whacking Leon on a long term contract before he sailed off into the sunset. Thank you David, and Thank you Leon.

Good post, puts it all into context

Brown Shoes Bobby told evertontv: "Leon was a true captain, a leader. He brings a real understanding of what's needed in the game.

"He got himself in real awkward spaces for Newcastle to pick him up and that opens up space higher up the pitch.

"He was very influential in that respect and his workrate was rewarded at the end with a sensational finish.

"That's Leon; leadership, knowhow of the game and being a real star with everything he does.

"It was a very good performance within the context [of the game] because I feel it was a phenomenal effort as a team."
