Ridicuous to write him of at 31. He is a valuable squad player and a top blue.

Well said. Our fans love to find a scapegoat though. He shouldn't be starting games and if Barkley/Mirallas etc are contributing then I see no need for him in the team. However, yesterday showed that he is capable of doing a job because he's a very good footballer and Barkley was having a shocking game so needed to be replaced.

this season has showed a few things about Osman

He doesn't have the legs for a full game, he is too lightweight for the center mid, he cant play wing and his role from this point forward should be strictly to be a spelling player for barkley, thats the position that most of his weaknesses aren't exposed and the plus parts of his game can still provide something, hopefully thats the way roberto will use him for the rest of the season now, a 30 min player who can do something once the games slowed down to his pace etc

With Gibson injured we are going to see a lot of Ossie in central midfield this season as he is the only real cover for McCarthy and Barry. I don't want to see Heitinga in there and I am not sure Barkley is ready to play deeper.

Then either this needs to be addressed in January window, or we have to hope Lundstram develops to the level of being ready this year, as Osman is a liability in the center mid role as has been showed time and time again since last november

He's become a better player in the last 3 seasons. He's better than most would have you think IMO. Lacks in pace and shooting ability but other than that he's become a neat footballer.

I'd rather have him in the current squad than the backup of Neville or Heiringa

He was perfect for yesterday's game, and there will be games like that throughout the season. It's horses for courses and in a game where we're being pressed hard and the midfield have very little time on the ball he's great. When we are able to play the way Martinez wants when we stroke it around under little pressure then he shouldn't be first choice, but we'll definitely need him from time to time.

He's always been better further advanced up the pitch. But Cahill was better so he's always been pushed elsewhere.

For me he always does a job and puts in effort (and a decent contribution) in whatever position and because of that I like him.

But especially in the last year he just looks like he's past his best, renowned for having quick feet but they haven't looked so quick recently.

Good squad player yes.

Starting for a team that wants Champions League? No.

Played well yesterday though and did come on and win us the game, so credit where it's due.

He's an intelligent player, so when he came on off the bench yesterday he was able to see how the game was progressing and had the nous to be effective where Barkley wasn't.

And that's exactly how he should be utilised now - as an effective player off the bench.

Osman has always been an extremely talented footballer but his lack of consistency is the big weakness.

This season he could become one of, if not, our most important player, this is a squad game and the teams that have a bench of players that can make a difference in important areas are priceless. Tight game yesterday where our blossoming young player was not quite doing it and Osman with the intelligence and experience comes on and makes that difference. As the commentator said Barkley would probably have not made the quick decision to move that ball onto Lukaku.

teams are gonna squeeze barkley now, when osman came on he had a lot more space, and used it well

I am not an Ossie fan but give credit where credit is due -
the game changed in Everton's favour the moment he replaced Barkley -
suddenly the service and the distribution in midfield was much better

...this is right. Leon's entry to the game changed the whole dynamic. Ross was poor (let's be honest). His footbaslling brain needs to catch up with his footballing body. Leon is at the other end of the spectrum. EFC have a need for both
