Let’s talk about Nottingham Forest

Just looking through the whole table and the start of the season. I'm struggling to see how Forest are doing so well. When you look at their starting eleven, there isn't a single player who you would even call a good Premier league player. Albeit Wood seems to be in excellent form.

They all seem average at best or at least from an outsiders view who doesn't watch them regularly, but obviously they are playing with a very good team ethic this season. Their whole success seems to be down to the lack of goals they are conceding and perhaps that is down to team shape. But it seems as though Nuno has them playing to their maximum. In 9 games they have nearly already accrued half the points they need to stay up so a great effort for sure.

They hired a decent manager.

It’s that straight forward.

Nuno isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but if you are going to play defensive football then it helps to know how to play defensive football that actually wins games.

You actually answered your own question perfectly in that 2nd paragraph.

It is a team game. Burnley qualifying for Europe, Everton getting 4th when we were down and out. Get a good work ethic, everybody knowing their jobs and being extremely disciplined and an average team has the chance to do well. It is a team game after all, and the phrase 'Greater than the sum of all parts' has been proven to be a valid comment on numerous occasions.

Good point and it immediately made me think of our team in the 80s when we just started to be good. All the names we know (apart from Andy Gray) were pretty well unknown at the time. I remember one newspaper article at the time actually saying pretty well what you've said. I guess with the right coach picking the right players some things just click.

You may not think they have any good PL players but there are plenty of watching eyes on the likes of Gibbs-White, Danilo, Murilo, and Elanga, they do have some decent players for me.
