Let's not kid ourselves

I think a lot of people with this atttiude would have a far different one had we beaten Bournemouth & Burnley.

...As we should be doing - don't give me the usual guff about no easy games, I never said they'd be easy but I expected us not to lose either at the very least.

Our players are deserving of criticism, sure - but to put their lot on a pedestal?

'sake. You'll all be pissing yerselves when they get turned over by someone like hull or swansea...But they'll still be better than us, wont they?:blush:

That's the true mate.

For me he was a wonderful player and he really had a big future, sadly all these injuries will play on his mind and his body and its unrealistic to assume he will come back the same player.

There is off course a faint hope, so I will retain the faith, but it hurts.
Completely agree. Had a bit of Peter Reid about him.

Ahh the wait and see approach? Like when people were getting slated for saying Everton would have a crap window... being called bed wetters etc and the same with people calling time on RM.... let's wait... let's wait... people can fume whenever they want to imo... waiting in RM cost us a cup final IMO ... unsworth would have had them playing better..

Yeah the 'lets wait and see' approach... As opposed to the 'lets sack the manager/dof etc, etc after less than ten games' approach.

We are 5 points off top and we've been indifferent in the last few fixtures so could have been top. Or we are 7 points off bottom 3 and had a decent run earlier in the season which without we could be in relegation zone. It is so easy to knee jerk this early. Let's wait until we have played every team once this will give us more of an idea where we are.

Everton are a mid-table side. I suspect this season will end with us: P38 W13 D 12 L13 Pts 51. I think that the European places will go to United, City. Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool. I doubt that we will win any cups because that requires an element of luck (and Everton don't do luck). And I cannot see the next transfer windows producing anything but the in and out of a few journeymen, because top players don't want to know us because we are not in Europe.
I wish that I didn't believe this but I cannot convince myself otherwise.
The top 6 are a good bit ahead of us. If we come 7th we might have a chance of Europe depending on the who wins and he cups.

Not knee jerking and appreciate we are in transition.

But we could do with shifting at least 10 players and replacing them with Premier League quality.

I don't think we should be sacking managers after 10 games either.... but if people are being negative then I can understand why... not much is going right at the moment..

The comments regarding the summer transfer window being a complete failure are a bit odd. We didn't strengthen as much as we'd hoped in all the positions that require it, but we did strengthen the first 11. Maybe those who are so disappointed genuinely believed internet rumours regarding certain players being nailed on to sign for us? If so I'm sure they feel a bit silly, and hope they learned a valuable lesson ;)

Some people are seriously deluded if they thought Moshiri coming in was going to instantly have us in the top 4, with World Class players all desperate to join a side that finished 11th the past 2 seasons, hasn't competed in the Champions League a single time in the Premier League era and hasn't won a trophy for 21 years.

Spot on. Moshiri isn't spectacularly wealthy in Premier League club owner terms. He wasn't going to pump hundreds of millions out of his own pocket into a vanity project like Abramovich did. If we do achieve success it's going to take time and some crafty decisions, from player recruitment to boardroom decisions. We aren't a top level club anymore. Listening to some of you go on is like listening to an old arse down the pub going on about all the stunners he bedded when he was 20, thinking that still makes him some sort of Don Juan

We'll be a top club again when we earn it on the pitch. If it will ever happen, it will most likely take time. Ambition tempered by more realistic expectations than are currently floating around will make following Everton a bit more pleasant for some of you

While I/we agree with all that mate, what we can't accept is that in these "Sky TV money days" where everyone is receiving at least 70m last Summer, and 100m the next one, we are once again ending the transfer window with a negative spend/profit. Not good enough. Not going to get anywhere at this rate.
I doubt many are expecting Abramovich style spending, but any spend would be great thanks ;)

Seems by some of the things said on here during and since the takeover that a few expected something similar. We all know there were some failings in the transfer window, but being in the position we are, it was never going to be an easy sell to attract all the players we wanted. If we haven't improved after a few windows then maybe some of this negativity may be justified. At the moment it's a bit silly in my opinion.

Regarding the TV money we have ambitions of a new stadium and they don't come cheap. If some of the players we wanted had been more eager to join, I firmly believe we wouldn't have had a negative net spend.

Personally I'd like us to take an Atletico Mardrid type approach of regaining our status. Instil a good manager, build a strong club ethos, develop a transfer policy of buying good players that fit the type of style we want to play and buy into the 'project'. So far it seems we may be doing something similar. We got Koeman, he seems to be trying to build a strong team spirit, Walsh has been brought in to oversee player recruitment (Gueye and Williams both being good examples of players that we needed and who we could attract). The stadium and being better at the commercial side of football will also take time. I'm optimistic but will give it time before forming a firm opinion.

What is it with the arbitrary time periods that have to pass before you can criticise anything on here?

People were the same with Martinez, yet were proven spot on 12 months prior to the bandwagon getting in motion.

Right now, it's crystal clear that the summer has done over any chance we had of competing properly, so it's very reasonable to state right now that we are cemented as also rans for the rest of the season, and the ball has been dropped on gaining momentum under a supposed billionaire 'investor' and that will probably have a negative impact on next season too.
Had we beaten Burnley we still would have been 2pts off the top with only 29 games to play. It doesn't look good. Teams with ambition just don't lose at the likes of Burnley. Look at Southampton - drawing at the probable league champions, Spurs still beating most teams they play, last year's champions now on a roll and W Ham taking on the world with their stadium.
It's going to be a long hard season, even more so if one spends too much time reading this forum!
